Beautiful image....and love the overall image. I love the leading line the stream provides to pull the eye into those vertical lines of trees. I think the composition is beautiful and impactful.
Unlike Butch...I'm not bothered by the water running off the stream, since I usually pick something that looks like a leading line and use it to pull my eye into those beautiful line of trees in the background. But I understand why Butch would suggest it, because even his version has the same effect on me. The dark water pulls my eyes into the trees line.
Nicely done! Sorry I missed the image going into April, but glad I caught it! |

I like the image a great deal....it tells me this is a very busy harbor with ferries and ships coming and going pretty much throughout the view you shared (and elsewhere is understood). It also shows all the human activity as well as the "place". It talks to me of an active and vibrant area of Sydney, one that most people would not think to use to display their "home" area. But, I also know that you are interested in "then and now" and this is probably an area that has provided dynamic change to the town over the years. This image speaks well to the vibrancy and vitality of the area. I could be reading more into it than intended....but I probably know your interests better than other members, since Ian and I are the lone survivors of the "original Group 73". |

My daughter and family live in Washington State near Mt. Ranier. We are going to visit this May...will be our first time to Washington. And I do plan some outings for photography. I plan to do some landscapes while I'm there!
As for your image...I really love the symmetry ...and enjoy the original color as well as the transition to BNW. I agree with Butch that I would crop the bottom a little so that your eye is not drawn down to below the reflections. Nicely done. |

Just a beautiful sky!!! I have never seen skies more beautiful than in AZ. Our favorite place to travel is Sedona and what I appreciated the most was the gorgeous and yes sometimes almost "unreal" skies. And in the case of Sedona you are backing it up with Red Rock not cacti. We also went south of Phoenix one year and took in Saguaro NP. I think the colors there are a tad more dynamic...but your image is superb! Thanks for sharing this beauty. |

Interesting because I debated it and considering the location , while there were lots of helicopters, but it is so remote I can't imagine they could have been jet streamsā¦..so I thought they might be natural phenomena from the altitudeā¦. I know most likely not, but it was a choice and I decided to leave them in. But I also get why you suggested it! Now if I could only back my imagination up with truth ????! |

Interesting you suggest the cropping, I tried it first as a square but I felt it looked cramped. I really wanted the downward slope on the left bottom included to produce a little more "depth" and show how steep the area was. Any thoughts on how to achieve it without getting too much sky? |

This area used to have so many birds...then they did not maintain the area and it got to the point where I just didn't go because the fauna was choking out the birds...then someone told me they had cleaned it out so I tried again...thus the exclamation I used since I was expecting zip!! |

Thanks John, in fact I did consider bringing it in closer....My hesitation was this was already cropped in good deal.....they were all pretty high up, and I was afraid I might pixelate it .....particularly since the website has to be less than 1 mb. So I opted not to....anyone have any thoughts whether this would impact it? Sometimes it's those crazy kind of things that I can't quite figure out and I'm afraid to try! |

I thought your comment about no macro was interesting. I always had a macro lens, but since switching to prime lens primarily (except for one landscape lens) I use my prime and get farther away. Do you still use a macro lens? |

Excellent capture of simplicity and beauty! Love the water drops, the small butterfly to give it the feel of reality, the sharpness of the entire subject and the blurred background of the rest, and I love the crop and angle on this image! Outstanding!
Nice Simplicity and Beauty! |

Mother Nature can be beautiful, and surprise us at the same time! You have captured the fickle nature of our globe (and we humans have put some heavy burdens on her).
Your image has fresh fallen snow, beautiful leading lines, and a peaceful aura that calms the viewer and makes for an outstanding image. I agree that you could darken the sky, but that is your preference since the image stands on its own as is. And I love the pop of that green door! |

The sunrises at Blue Cypress lake are just beautiful, but I'm usually there for nesting Osprey so that is an early morning start and go home to sleep a little more. You have captured the beauty and serenity of the lake in your image. But this one is special! The colors are magnificent! I think both crops set the image off nicely... so I think it is up to you. |

Awesome bird and image. GBH are everywhere here....busy nesting and we in fact already have 4 week old chicks. They are such magnificent birds and that landing is incredible, you even got the water splash, great action. I agree that the feathers on the bcck of the bird could be lighter and the lore should stay as is. I would use a modified subject mask to prevent the lore from changing. But try to reduce the darkening you did first to see if the lore stays the same.

I'm going to second what everyone else has said...very jealous...I've been to Iceland and did NOT get any Aurora and was seriously disappointed. This is stunning particularly given the circumstances. I'm going to add that I do think Gwen was talking that tiny spot on the bottom right, not the mountain. Unnecessary distraction, unlike the mountain giving it perspective. |

Beautiful bird, I'm not sure but I think it is a tiny little guy (since most fly catchers are small) and you have captured a fantastic shot of this little one! His colors are magnificent and set against a nice creamy background! And Judy is right...the complematary colors make the image more beautiful. Makes the bird stand with minimal competition from he background! Nicely done.
One post processing item I might suggest is removing the yellow brownish leaves on the right of the bird and the small piece of branch on the bottom right. Both are not a huge deal, but I would most likely remove them if it were my image. 2 years ago I might not have suggested it, but LR and PS have gotten so good that they usually blend in beautifully with the background and don't look like you've removed them. Please just keep in mind the image stands on its own, regardless of that change, and is really the photographers choice...not mine. I only wanted to suggest something you may not have considered! |
