I am a lover of "smooth water" and this is a magnificent capture! I do like Butch's suggestions as well. I'm not sure I feel conflicted, but from my view, I really get stuck on the front/bottom half of the image because of the beautiful movement of the water. What a gorgeous place to visit!!! Thanks for sharing the beauty of the area!! |

Ian, there is not a great deal to say, other than I am immensely jealous that your country has such magnificent events!!!
Your main image is all about those gorgeous colors and lighting! Of course the other two are pretty special too....non- natives usually only think of the Opera House when they think of Vivid Sydney, but it is clear that many other spots within the city join in the fun! thanks so much for sharing!!
Can you share what your camera setting were? |

Nicely framed and gorgeous panorama. Limiting the sky was a good choice vein your subject was the clearly the hills! I also like that you used a very large rock in the forefront to act as a pivot point for the eye and help to draw the eye in through the foreground of the photo. Nicely done! |

Beautiful image and an Iconic Sonoran Desert image. The vibrancy of the colors is remarkable and really projects the heat of the desert making this image! I like the cacti as shadows because they are distinctive and immediately recognizable as cacti. your framing of the mountains in the background complete the beauty of the place and shows off your knowledge of the area! Well done. |

The really sad part is the dock area is no longer there....the rocks were washed away and the land eroded at this area in particular....it took a direct hit. Not sure what they are going to do to replace it, but the geography is really weird it is actually facing East so the water in between is not really Gulf of Mexico...but I have no idea what to call it. This inlet served all the boats going in and out for fishing, scuba, or just pleasure boating, it actually faces East, which is why sunrise. My granddaughters joined me most times I walked over to get some images....we would look out the front of the house we rented and decide if it was going to be worth the effort. Occasionally we would miss a good one...but rarely. |

Let's start with, I really like your original image! I'm going to let everyone know I've added your original and see if they have any thoughts or suggestions on how to process it any better. I played around with your image using lots of different options ....and IMHO this is not an image that you can use a mask on....so instead I used the sliders under lights, and the settings I used:
Highlights -100
Shadows -34
White -45
Blacks -30
And reality is the peacock's feathers create a very difficult scenario! |

Beautiful image Leslie!!! Your composition is spot on and the mountains in the background are a wonderful addition to the image!! Agree with other comments....Less sky and more focus on the drift wood. It really is the star of the image!! But those are tweaks ....the original execution was perfection! |

John....just a magnificent image! I have a a special place in my heart for Dogwood Trees and I never get to see them in Florida! Our first home had two dogwoods framing our garage door...and when they bloomed it was beautiful!
You have framed it nicely....and you were able to separate the two flowers from the background nicely. The focus really is on those beautiful blooms. My only suggestion might be to clone out branches on the left with PS. They are nicely blurred ...but as a photographer that shoots birds a lot, I often will remove stray branches because they are distracting from the wildlife. You may not feel as passionate about that given it is part of the dogwood tree, so just understand where my comment is coming from. |

Spoonbills are at the top of my bird list for beauty!!! Your post processing is well done...and certainly a big improvement over the original. The processing is well done and no noticeable differences to identify you changed the background. Congrats!
I too have rescued an image with the technique, and I've found it to quite acceptable. Many days when the sky is nice I will take some background sky photos and keep them in a folder by location. Most often it will just sit in my library, but every so often when I have the subject well done, and background less fantastic I will at least try. |

The processing certainly would be difficult. I think your mask is the problem . It is apparent that you masked the bird to lighten feathers and darken the background, and the area directly below the body looks strange. Now saying all that ....I'm not sure how anyone would be able to get a mask that could effectively separate the thousands of feathers from the background ....or at least not any software I have worked with. You might be better off with modifying the entire image, using shadows and highlights. The masking just can't handle those minute tiny feathers.
The bird is lovely ....and you might want to share the original to see if others have a suggestion on best way to process it! |

Totally think Judy has a great idea. I was going to suggest cropping in tighter, but there is a great deal of merit to her suggestion! I love that little flower......it really adds a special touch to the baby! wouldn't you love to know where it came from ;-)

Very nice image. I've never been to GSMNP, though we traveled through the "area" in transit. A beautiful landscape ....and you were treated to something special. Quick thinking gave you a unique opportunity to get some shots of the elks! I've never seen one ....and getting a young one adds to the cache !
My thought would be to tone down the luminance and or saturation on the green. It distracts you from really looking at the Mom and Baby. |

They were taken about 20 minutes apart and the sun had gone behind a cloud, plus I was down on the boardwalk kneeling with my lens between the slats. So I was not surprised at all about the color difference. But the color could certainly be adjusted. I just really liked how incredibly peaceful she looked after trying to monitor the chicks, chase away intruders, and feed herself |

Actually I posted this on IG and posted it as a series ...the first chick, the second chick, and Mom on the nest. And I really do get the better story, but this format does not allow that type of post....and IMO the first one is a far better image, but also knew you would not get the story without a second image. It is much better as a series overall! SO perhaps I should not have tried it in this environment! |
