Ian take a look I'm surprised you missed "my error". You're detailed eye almost always picks them up! |

Just to let you know I did miss something when processing, since I used LR to darken the sky a bit, I missed checking the mask in one spot. At the top of the antenna. I will adjust when I return home since now I can't take my eye off of it. I am currently in Costa Rica and leave for the Cloud Forrest early tomorrow. I'll be back 4/1 so I won't be able to post correction. But I have actually had several people bid for this shot in a charity auction, it is very dear to most Maryland ( Baltimore folks mainly) residents because of the history. It is a unique shape and has withstood many storms in Baltimore Harbour. I really enjoyed my 9 year residence in Baltimore, probably my favorite place we called home.
I have a particular preference for the soft pink and blue of sunrise, which is why I presented it as is, but I do indeed realize Butch's image would be very popular with many. In fact probably more would favor the "punch".. |

What a powerful image of a unique phenomenon. Love the composition, the feeling of movement and the stark landscape of frozen water. I think you have captured the essence of life in the frozen winter of Michigan. I lived there for 4 months while in my 20's and decided the waters were not something I could tolerate. My starkest memory is getting up at 6 AM to be at work by 7Am with streets snow covered and icy....this brings back some memories! |

Beautiful image, Peter! It is remarkable how much wheat is visible in this image! The fields must seem like they go on forever....which they probably do. Add to that the road that leads you into it is reality, but your interpretation removes that human "artifact" by using it as a leading line. I like the image a great deal and certainly makes me appreciate the beauty of nature and humankind who requires things like that for life!
Nicely done! |

Beautiful image Ian.....Very soothing and peaceful! I love the mist further out and the random arrangements of the rocks.....it would have made up for the early rise required to get this image!
I like Butch's thoughts too, but the image does lose some of it's gentleness with the "punch added". Having said that , it is always amazing to me how one beautiful image can be interpreted so many different ways, both with their own unique advantages. |

Dave, I'm not sure I'd call this image nothing much.....It is a beautiful panorama of an area I've not visited. Your foreground draws you into the image, and you realize the steam rising is from the hot springs, and then the beautiful mountains in the background! Without a doubt it must have been pretty cold to stand there and get a shot! I am assuming this is not a panorama (i.e. merged image) so you were pretty far back considering you were at 110 mm. I've found that I generally like big landscape images taken with a zoom, and I may be solo on that opinion....becuase I shoot a great deal of wildlife, and the camera in my hand is usually for wildlife which means zoom! Yellowstone is beautiful, thanks for sharing. |

I have a few images like that, taken a while ago, and based on year, have some clue as to camera and lens but metadata is long gone. I really like the movement in this image! The palm trees blowing and chop in the water tell me most likely a breezy day and it leads me into the thoughtful background. I would love to know more about the Chinaman"s hat.....just because I find it an interesting "rock" and Im sure has a fair amount of history.
I like the placement of all the background items in the water, given you probably worked to get as many partially visible. Nice image |

Unique and interesting.....that tongue and the inside of the mouth is really interesting (wonder what that tube is at the base of the tongue is for? I was a biology major in college, can you tell? ;-)
The image is super interesting and reminds me of the Iguana around here (an invasive species green and orange) that are disgusting and huge at times. So I've been conditioned to think of them as very basic nusances. Most likely what the Aussies think.
I like the way you have focused on the tongue and mouth yet still showed us what the body looks like (even though it is mostly blurred) which keeps our focus on the Skink. |

So I'm going to start with your last comment....The Park Service's have been sorely hampered. I worry that next we will hear of using them to harvest natural resources. End of political dialogue...but I needed to say that.
Your image is lovely and an area I do not know! I keep finding new places I'd like to visit from your detailed descriptions. I would make one small suggestion (one that I frequently get BTW) you might want to decease the sky a small amount since the image is really about the Caldera. while the sky sets the tone, you can get that with just a smaller amount of visibility. |

Absolutely a fantastic image!!! That face.....just WOW!! And being able to share it with your daughter.....priceless. I agree the Queen attiude makes for a contest winner! Her posture of absolute comfort shows your respect for the animals and certainly shows off her Queen Status! |

Peter, I've seen Carmine Bee Eaters in Kenya, but it's been a few years .... and one forgets how really vibrant and beautiful they really are . Outstanding image crisp and well focused throughout. Perfect background to show him off. It looks like you might have darkened the background, using the tool in LR. Your mask missed two spots around his tail. You might try just a small brush to make it match the rest of the back ground. Would be pretty minor adjustment. The rest of the background is pretty consistent, and particularly on birds it is often harder to isolate them because of the feathers.
All in all a beautiful image ....thanks for the memories! |

Outstanding! One I would consider printing in larger format and hanging on my wall. Well exposed, sharp and just a lovely composition! Congrats!! |

I really prefer the original. This is too close to the egret's breeding colors (lore). So I stand by my original, I think the darker color shows off the lore better than the lighter background. |

If you notice in my processing I did decrease highlights to eliminate a few blown out areas, unfortunately I had to use "subject" to decrease highlights. But I could also try selecting background and lighten the greenery. But I also did not want to compete with the beautiful breeding green on the Egret. So multiple pieces to my decision. I'll give it a try and post see if others agree. |
