Gary, I like the conversion to monochrome, I believe it gives it a rustic look and makes me think it has not been cultivated or used by anyone, which would fit with your description of the area. I do like what Buych has done to provide a tad more drama to the landscape and enhances the different levels of the image which are not as prominent in your version. But the image sure does fit your title! |

Beautiful image Peter! The gradual hills and beautiful green grass interspersed to create a feeling of a peaceful landscape. And the barn offset against those rolling hills make it pretty close to a perfect, peaceful image. |

Just a magnificent beach ...I love the curve and the way it pulls your eye into the scene. The shape of the beach is very unusual, and going from rocky areas to a proper sand beach is not something we see often in our Florida landscape. I think about Captiva Island which has great beaches (or at least did) and then the tip of the island is pretty much all rocks (like my image this month).
I love the way the wave and shoreline merge and seem to go on for a very long time. That white draws my eye in to enjoy the beauty of the area. You've minimized the sky since it is rather bland (I.E. no clouds) and anchored the scene nicely with the rocks that also have that curve to it as well. Well done!

Dave, I love Red rocks...our favorite spot is Sedona, but a friend clued me into Valley of Fire a couple of years ago!
this is a very nice panorama of the area, and shows off both the red rocks and the vegetation. It was a very large image that I had to reduce in size before posting....and it just doesn't handle this small size well....but in the original one can zoom in and see a great more detail.
The sky sets off the red rocks nicely and make me want to visit the area (or Sedona) again. Red rock landscapes are nirvana for me ... and you did them justice! |

Very interesting ...would love to find out more about the Cristate formations. My guess is that frost is the most unlikely (unless it is age dependent - i.e. only very young or aged are affected). Since they have incredible life span...that might make some sense.
Very nice image and one that can be educational as well as very pleasant to look at as well. I like the light, and interesting sky. They complement the focus point, while not taking your eye from it. |

Butch,
Can you tell me what you did to increase the colors in the sky? Saturation of the pinkish color? I very much like that effect but not sure what you used. I've tried several things and nothing gave me the tones you achieved. I normally do most of my color modifications in LR not RAW but thought they were pretty much identical. Im trying to keep my mind off the weather and since I still have power..... thanks! |

I hope you were not severely damaged by Milton! I kept thinking about you and Peter.....when I wasn't glued to the TV for Tornado watches. |

Thanks for asking......We are OK, but many others have suffered terrible damage. ON the Southeast side we had tornados that randomly destroyed neighborhoods. On the West Coast the areas were inundated with water. I'm not sure how Judy and Peter faired.....but I know they had to have had some impact. |

Judy, the hawks were quite a pair and watching them grow was really fascinating. And yes, the snag is very distinguishable and most people who have spent some time at Green Cay absolutely recognize it immediately. I think your rational is pretty sound ...but in fairness, I do like them both a great deal. I love how the eyes on the hawk stare into your "soul". and that is not as obvious in the larger image. So really the End result for all of us is ....it's in the eye of the beholder. |

You are right John, it is a delicate balancing act. I do like this one much better, and the smoke is not nearly so noticeable. I suspect that is what everyone noticed more than anything else. I think you have a much better image with whatever "dinking" you did! |

I agree with Leslie.....this image could use some contrast ....I think. The smoke haze made this a very tough image to work with, I'm sure... because it probably neutralized much of the contrast . I'm not sure what would work best whether it would be saturation, contrast, or increasing the individual colors .... I might play around with some of the options to see if anything might create a little more "pop". It might also be one of those that can't be overcome due to the smoke. |

Leslie.....very unique and interesting image. I really do like it very much. I think your composition is excellent, and while perhaps not traditional...it makes the image stand out! Well Done! |

Peter...It dawned on me that you were in the same situation I was...most likely waiting for Milton. Hope you made it through safely with minimal damage. |

Sarita, beautiful butterfly, one that I'm not familiar with. I love your crop it really makes the eye go to the butterfly immediately, and the flower is lovely. Sorry, Im no help on ID....but you might try iNaturalist if you wish to ID it. It's my go to for flora ! Image is sharp where it needs to be and background blurred allows the subjects to stand out nicely, Very nice image! |

That was where I was and why I decided to use the wider view....in fact the top is not cut off, but a little more blue sky would have allowed you to see it more clearly. I think there is something to be said for both views. The snag is a popular spot for observation and resting by many of the birds, I can't imagine how many images I have captured at this spot over the past 5 years. So it has become a routine spot..but that breeds contempt because I don't fully appreciate the beauty of the snag as well. |

Beautiful ! love the leading lines and way the falls go from left to right to left and leading your eye through the entire image. Now if we just get through this next one...please stay safe! |

The first time Ive seen one in Maryland, I grabbed my camera and took some shots. They are not the easiest insect to photograph and this one resembled a bee, only giant!
My images were not salvageable ....no surpise, I had limited experience shooting birds and while I was close, they are "flighty" :-)!
The insect is totally crisp and clear and the flower clearly shows why it is visiting! The white is a bit of a distraction but I think it would be difficult to darken without impacting the moth. Im pretty sure they are flowers which is why the moth was attracted to the area. Very nice job!!

Thanks Don....your personal thought is appreciate, especially since I did consider doing just that! The reason I ended up with this one was the snag and figuring out how best to not make it look lopsided. I'll attach the other one when Im done uploading the images for everyone. |

Aren't they magnificent creatures? I still have another trip to either Botswana or Kenya on my list of desires!
This is a great image and if I may make a suggestion that would aid us in giving you suggestions...could you send the original (I will post it as soon as you can get it too me ,barring any unforeseen problems) so that we could see what you started with.... I frequently use masks when possible to tone down the background or blur it some. Since I shoot birds a great deal, living in Florida, there is almost never a clean nice background so when feasible I do so. |
