Gary,
Im not sure how you are able to determine the right colors in your images....I had cataracts removed 2 years ago and suddenly realized my color sense was way off but not until after they were removed. Time after time I would use a color meter to adjust my colors on the screen and they never seemed quite right. Cataracts give a hazy yellow tones vision, and when removed I realized it was me not my computer screen! |

Butch, I agree on the LR Denoise, it does the job extremely well. I notice less artifacts, particularly on high noise images. Even better than Topaz Ai. |

Gary.... from your original submission I was mesmerized by the mountain and elk (as most everyone knows I love wildlife photography)....and they add a special touch! Comparing it to Norway .....with Peter's Image, I think this continent (North America) has much to enjoy! We tend to forget that we have places as beautiful, if not more so than Europe. I vey much like the way you used the sloping foreground to set off the mountain. My normal would be straight horizon line, but I find with this image I really do like the foreground mirroring the background. I can't add to Butch's suggestions on tonal changes but his version pops a little more.
As for the title, I like that you included the elk in your title but that is because of my bias for wildlife inclusion if it's there. Will most people care about the Elk, probably not, and without it in the title, many might miss them. BUT that is someone that shoots wildlife and coincidently finds landscapes in the process of looking for them. Very nice image Gary. |

Just a beautiful place ...and every time you submit an image from there I wish I had made a trip to Norway. It reminds me of Iceland on steroids, but in fairness I was there in August not during proper winter. Iceland was settled by the Vikings, and was ruled by Denmark for a while.
The image is superb......using the water/boat as your guide into the image, and particularly the mountains. Your composition is spot on and processing well done. Thanks for sharing! |

What a beautiful sunrise and love the melting sun as it rises. It's been a long time since I have visited Canada, in fact the last time was when I was 6 months pregnant with my second daughter :-) and I won't tell you how old she is. I like the increase in shadows on the foreground, they make the image more relatable. I like knowing if it's a beach, rocky inlet....or what ever. It defines the image a little more for me. Thanks for sharing. I also like the Images title ! |

Dave, so jealous that you were in a position to get the Aurora. Unfortunately, here in SFL we really didn't get to see anything of note. I really like the image and regardless of the foreground you certainly got the sky! The colors are beautiful! I do like Butch's version with the foreground shadows lightened, it gives a much better base for the Aurora.
Really nice job and one you should be proud of!! Not just a memory. |

Beautiful image of the Grand Canyon. Also like that you choose the North Rim since that is an unusual view. Most people think of the South Rim. I particularly like the way you treated the lighting on the one small butte. It draws the eye immediately to that spot and then allows the eye to wander through the rest of the image. Well done.
Particularly since you do a great deal of processing on your images I would love to see an occasional "original". For instance with this image you mention you "cheat" shoot at 200 ISO when on tripod, then process in LR and do more fine tuning in other apps. |

Butch, I've been twice...once to Kenya and once to Tanzania. Both were 10-14 days. I loved Kenya and found Tanzania less robust in their wildlife. We saw one Leopard there, the whole time. Kenya is smaller (Masai Mara) and you see a lot more of the big cats and birds. I was also a better wildlife photographer at that point so that may have influenced me. My goal is go back and see Botswana at least. But I'd go back to Kenya in a heartbeat. |

Butch, I totally get why you suggested removing the "Hand of Man", I just wasn't sure how acceptable since it is a fairly large piece of the image. I had removed some "debris" from that lawn and actually considered your suggestion. As for the shadows and highlights, I actually have a second version that is darker....Let's see what everyone else thinks about the removal of the umbrella and table, and I'll actually try removing the table myself to see if I can get a result as good as yours! |

WOW! I really like this plant and butterfly...never heard of either. Is the plant a form of Cacti? Haven't had the time to look it up but I will since it is really a stunning plant. Not to mention the Butterfly. Your image is crisp and clean and shows off your subjects admirably. They complement each other nicely. This is probably one of my favorite images you've done. Partly because of uniqueness but also execution. Very Nice. |

What a fascinating tale of this area. Oak trees have always been considered pone of the great hardwoods and think about how long we keep furniture that was made in Oak. I have a desk given to me at HS Graduation that is Oak and it is standing strong, but while I won't mention what year that was, it was a very long time ago. I still use it today in my spare room for personal correspondence.
Unfortunately I am not a conversion to BNW expert, But if you can send me your original I'll post it to see if anyone can comment. I have a friend in my other group that likes to do conversions and Infrared....Look him up in Group 73 (Ian Cambourne) and send him a note he might have some wise advice. He is from Australia and a great team member in our 73 group! Better yet send me the original and Ill ask him to take a look! |

Indigo Buntings are stunning, I've gotten one in my life and had to reject it .....deep in tree cover and dark as night...... I actually like this image, it is a bit soft, and I'm not all concerned about the bird looking away since I think they are looking for something and I like the cocked head.
You still get one eye and the colorful feathers. So I might suggest one of two options perhaps increase the pixel size (it might just be a remnant of the severe crop and take it through Topaz Sharpen) . Based one the background. it looks like you might have already tried LR Denoise, but id no you could consider that as well. |

Beauty of a shot of a Rhino....they are difficult to find and usually not so close to get that much detail. I love the water dripping from his mouth and it's as crisp as the Rhino. I would suggest trying one Leslie's techniques just to make the Rhino stand out a tad more.....nothing dramatic just a tweak or too. Since it fills almost the whole frame....It is probably not needed but worth a try to see if YOU like it better. If not, I would say don't touch ! It is your image and if you compare and think NOT then don't. |

What a remarkable shot!! I've not seen a Frigate Bird in my neck of the woods, but I know they are around here, but most likely out on the ocean. after seeing this I will think about going on one of the local boats next breeding season to check them out!
The red chest is pretty impressive and holds your attention and your tack sharp on the feathers...one question ... does the sac have any feathers? just curious. I think you did the best you could with the distractions but I would also suggest that you might want to try in standard PS the Ai remove to get rid of the branches on his body which would help a lot! But a very unique image and interesting bird! Thanks for sharing.
I really appreciate the information you included since I think most people do not know those details. I know the locations of birds can be very distracting (just part of the challenge), Ive been trying some of the AI remove in PS (I have the Beta version) and have found sometimes it does a great job and some times not.....but as it develops I'm sure we may have a better solution for those branches that are everywhere. That I don't know is the guidance for using AI is not addressing things like that, so I will be very interested to see how that is tackled. |
