73 May 24 Reply Butch, interesting, when you added the image again, the first one came through, Sometimes technology has its own agenda, I think! This weeks is very busy, my second Granddaughter is graduating from high school tomorrow so I will be pretty busy tonight and tomorrow all day. But when I crash on Friday or Saturday, I will most certainly look at all the suggestions from you, Larry Treadwell , and Gary. May 22nd
73 May 24 Reply Sorry, Butch, the image did not come through, so I'm unable to comment on the changes. I will say this about the rocks...I included them intentionally since they are very much the reason for the offshoot falls from Dynjandi. There have to be 20 or 30 of them, but I'm certainly open to your thoughts. May 13th
73 May 24 Comment Gary, this is probably THE image everyone wants when visiting the Masai Mara. The lone Acacia at sunrise or sunset, seems to be America's favorite. This image is beautiful and I would bet brings back many fond memories of your trip! I agree on the lightened foreground and I would not change one other thing about the image. I love it!! One of these days I'll find mine and post it!

I found Kenya to be one of the most welcoming countries in Africa and retain friendships on line with our guides. I would gladly visit again. I found the birds to be extraordinary! Almost more interesting than the big five (and that was before I started photographing birds)! I know that sounds disloyal, but one of our guides was into birds as well and showed me many that I might not have spotted on my own! But I would never deny the lure of the cats!!! My favorite is the Cheetah....did you know it it is the only one that will not kill unless it is for food or protection?

73 May 24 Comment Peter,

Very unique building and interpretation. It is a beautiful building and the mood in your image makes it very dramatic. Nice interpretation!

I always struggle with cityscapes (architectural shots) and clearly do not have the understanding of why you accentuated the distortion. I would love for you to add some comments as to your reasoning for those of us that do not take many architectural shots.

73 May 24 Comment Ian, you are the experimenter of our group and I'm always amazed at the new things you try!! I love the darkness, and the light as a guide into the image. I would have guessed this was late at night with a full moon shining on first look. so when I read your commentary was surprised at the camera setting!

Excellent image! and I love the leading line!!!

73 May 24 Comment Beautiful image Dhananjay! I love orange sunsets and usually take lots of them when we visit Captiva, FL every summer. Sunsets also draw my eye and I get disappointed when it is bland! You've even manages to capture a few fly-bys! The one thing I would suggest is you have one telephone pole that you might want to remove since it really does not add much and detracts a tad from the church steeple (which I love!). Nice Image!! 73 May 24 Comment Dutch, beautiful image that is striking in its simplicity as well as choice of B&W. I would imagine this would ne stunning framed and printed on a large wall. I'm pretty sure I would not have had the stamina to get this shot and would have gotten discouraged long before I finally found the spot you envisioned. So four stars for determination !
Unfortunately, I am not that adept a user of Photoshop and layers. When I started really getting into photography I was working full time with 11-12 hr. days and little time to learn photoshop in that depth. Since then I have gotten to the point where I use it more, but still do not do photostacking or layers effectively. I prefer the thrill of the hunt (for wildlife ) since I live in Florida and do mostly birds. At the point when I can't spend time outdoors Ps will be very different than today. I'm amazed at the changes since I first started to use it!

Sorry a lot of words ....but still a beautiful image!

94 May 24 Reply Made a substantial difference. And face is sharper too. I suspect between turning his head and the noise the image wasn't as crisp as it could have been. I do think it is much improved. May 28th
94 May 24 Reply I understand where your thought process was going , unfortunately I was not able to extend the right side....without getting the next image in the frame. This is a fairly narrow boardwalk (allows 2 people to walk side by side). I could have done something to expend it via AI or just with content aware expand, but felt it was inappropriate for this venue. May 14th
94 May 24 Reply Judy yes, the Green Herons at Green Cay are very feisty and almost cranky. But this one was way beyond feisty ! And getting the great images from him made me sad to leave....but I was hot and tired. I would have loved to see where he ended up! They are very territorial even at other spots around here and get very cranky with anyone who challenges them. They have not had a successful breeding season at Wakodahatchee but have done very well at Green Cay. They get very frustrated with the horde of Wood Storks and take their friends and family and leave! May 14th
94 May 24 Comment Agree with everything else that has been said, I think by cropping at that little island would be beneficial, and you can stilll see the beautiful color of the water behind and near the bear. I'm just worried you will loose too many pixels and the image become grainy. You didn't say what the lens could go up to....seems like less than 200 mm was pushing your camera's capability. While I understand you certainly wanted to be safely away from Momma Bear, that makes life saving sense, it might have made this much more difficult to get a clean shot. May 14th
94 May 24 Comment John, love the title and the openness. The mountains in the background are a long distance away (just based on your statement). I love the mountains and empty space, but have you considered perhaps making it into a pano to highlight the mountains more? I suspect you would have tried a different location where the bush did not interfere, but I still think it might be possible to do it with what you have. I gave it a try so you can think about it...my main concern was that patch of ground in the bottom foreground...the uneveness bothered me. I think your intention certainly came though and as one who has never seen the foothills ....it awes me ! May 14th
94 May 24 Comment Nice thoughtful image! I agree with John, it speaks to me as a very serene shot. You surprise me when you said that you're not a morning person .....I thought most birders were, and more importantly here in Florida the only way not to get sunburned or end up with heat exhaustion. Guess that's why so many go out in spring during nesting, haven't hit the hot hot hot of summer!

I go to Wakodahatchee frequently and my favorite time is non breeding months to see all the Ibis's take off. Their morning departure makes for a beautiful short video. Almost like the OLD movie the birds without the terror. I've never tried this type of shot, but I think it is stunning. I like the three birds, the beautiful sky, and the serenity, thanks for sharing.

94 May 24 Comment I can't believe you saw the insect when you took the image! Im not sure my eyes are that good. I use both my Sony's for insects....I love to catch dragonflies on wild flora at the wetlands. They are fascinating but I start out following the dragonfly, and wait for it to land where I want it to be to take an image. I also only have a 10-15 percent success rate !

Considering the crop and the ending size Im not sure you could have gotten the eyes really sharp....but I know nothing about Katydid.

What I do know is your post processing took this from a bland image to an image with POP!!Nicely done Donald.

94 May 24 Comment Outstanding image and interesting bird. I was amazed at the number of stand out birds in Africa, all colorful and unique! This Coucal is glorious ! I have not seen one YET....really want to go back to Africa.

This image is outstanding. Feather Detail and eye is incredible. Gotta Love the Sony a1.

94 May 24 Comment Sarita....Nice catch for you and the heron. Hope you got to see him swallow it! I agree with what's been said.....but correcting the lighting is pretty easy. I also might try Denoise (LR version under Details) ..... I tried but denoise has to be done on a raw file and of course your image is jpg.....I'm seeing some grainyness in the background and thought it was one of two things....the size of the image or noise .
There is a subtle difference in the sharpness and it may be a low F stop.....but I would try running it through Topaz Sharpen because it is such a subtle difference. But you would clearly need the full size version to do that. I also wonder if it could be from his head being in the water and all wet from spearing the fish. I've gotten some weird results because of the water . Just some thoughts! The fact that you could get a shot off with the speed of the Heron when fishing is a step in the right direction .
And Judy's idea of single point of focus could help as well.

I like the composition and the fact that you are taking images showing a typical behavior..... is fantastic! Keep up the progress and you will get the hang of taking behavior shots which are spontaneous ....so knowing those habits about the bird are important.
