My problem with this one was it was a beautiful Panorama that I messed up in trying to get it down to size to fit ...you live you learn! |

Gary,
My first trip to Costa Rica was all about the landscapes. I did a ZIP Line, rode a horse, hiked up a volcano, and traveled between Rain Forest and Cloud Forest. I really like Costa Rica, my main topic of Photography is now birds. And Costa Rica has some beautiful birds in all shapes and sizes, but they have LOTS of Hummingbirds! So I enjoyed learning to catch decent shots of thess tiny little birds! Had never seriously shot birds until I moved to Florida 6 years ago. There are only so many beach shots you can get...and not a great many other wildlife subjects so I learned to shoot birds. And when COVID hit there was not much traveling .......so birds it was. |

I do not use Generative Fill and I suspect I picked an earlier version to post, but I am in the middle of Nesting season in Florida and go out almost every day....taking many images, working with a new lens, AND Ive switched to just LR (not classic). Too many things were going on and I most likely made an error....I tried many different things on that patch and the one I liked best was clone stamp tool. The picture submitted was the one I did with content aware fill. Was not so good! I'll find it and add it |

Never got an image. There must be something about how your POC is set up because I do it frequently and have never had a problem. Your image for Ian is what I see on John's and none on Ians. |

Quite a beautiful image! I agreed this was a not a simple shot to take, lots of variables. But your choice of location is incredible...nicely done. That type of image takes a great deal of planning and rigid execution. l just love the backdrop of the well lit LA. My one suggestion would be to hide the red taillights (my impression of what they are). I find them distracting and keeps pulling my eye back to that spot when I really want to look at the Observatory and city. Just a comment and it might be hard to remove them. But magical image!!!

Beautiful!!! This is one place that is on my list to visit ......my biggest challenge is the cold. If I may ask a strange question...did you find all the cold weather gear make it more difficult to shoot ....and how long did your battery's last? I went with a group to Utah and Arizona a few years ago in the winter and despite all the efforts to keep the batteries warm....I was lucky to get a couple of hours of use. And the gloves made for many missed shots, and that area did not come close to Loften in winter.
I much prefer the "panorama" image, mainly because you lose the snow capped mountains if you truncate it. I know what Butch is saying, but for someone living in Florida, the snow is quite a novelty. |

Ian, I love the image, it makes me think of the long road ahead of us and I always think IR looks like there is a dusting of snow.....but I know better, Australia does not get much in the way of snow.
I think it is a "road" some people really like, including you. The road leads you right into the image and takes you on a short journey down that road. Nicely Done!!!! |

The image is quite striking... but unless you altered the sky.....can't see why it was disqualified for hand of man ? When we lived inn Memphis they had fields like this once you got out of the city....I passed them every day and I would look at them and think I should bring my camera and get a picture, but I never did. I can't identify one thing I would change.

I now use a Mirrorless which is not a DSLR, but I still have my Nikon D500 and D850....but rarely use them. Except when I'm doing landscapes, then I pull out my 850. Never got a short lens for the Sony a1, it is dedicated to wildlife. But when I travel again I will likely invest in a Sony Short lens so I do not have to lug both a DSLR and a Mirrorless. |

the reason I did not crop some off the top, I wanted to make sure the two main blooms were attached to something. I tried several different crops and decided to stick with this purposely. |

Love the water, but why do they call it Buttermilk falls? The only thing I can think of is the yellow leaves in the fall make it look like Buttermilk?
This image should not be a pixel peeper because if you look too closely you can see the grain I think, but also there is some shake, given a handheld at 1.4.
But having said that I also said it should not be a pixel peeper but of course we all do it , I think. The cameras were also not as sophisticated as now. I think this was a DSLR?
I like the composition and the three different falls, three different levels make for interesting dynamics, and the water draws your eyes down . |

Beautiful image . I kept trying to find the tracks, until I read the description and realized you were on it! What time of year was this taken? is there variation in the vista in the area? I'm amazed at the number of dead trees when you look closely. great job, John

They are certainly actively breeding for the moment, on the east coast. They are the characters of the wetlands. Nicely done. We had one nest this past week that mom vacated leaving an orphan egg. They are the characters of the swamps. Great shot of him erect and his attitude is sparkling through. Great shot of a the Green Heron

Agree with Sarita.....havent seen one on east coast, but they sure are pretty. They remind me of a few Tanagers I saw in Costa Rico that had that beautiful scarlet coloring!
His pose is perfect, great catchlight and tack sharp! Awesome!
I just got a new lens for "several holidays " Christmas, birthday, Anniversary) it is the new Sony 300m 2.8. WOW I'll post an image next month from all my practice ! I even have the 1.4 tele on it and it is incredible (takes it up to f/4.0 but still awesome. I don't have to use noise reduction on every shot!! |

Cheetahs are my favorite wild cat, they never kill unless they need food (unlike leopards and lions). And that full belly is very noticeable. At first I thought it might be a pregnant female.
You have captured this beautifully. Cat is sharp and background is muted but you can tell this was taken in its habitat. Kudos!!!

Lovely image Sarita, Kingfishers are a nemesis (or at least the belted Kingfisher here in US) and getting them in flight is so hard.I pray for them to land!
I hope there was not a hook attached to that string. ive seen that happen frequently. Particularly when birds and fishermen are in the same spot.
I love your placement of the bird in the frame, the colors are magnificent, and and the background lighting is perfect! Wonderfull shot. |
