I get what you're seeing. In fact I considered editing and content fill for that center spot as well as the one on the right. I opted not to try it because I also know this place pretty well...and know the green bushes are at a different level than the grasses behind it (they are at the edge of the Levee while the grasses have a small water break between them). Thought it gave it some more depth. But I will try both your idea and Debbie's and see which one I like best. Thanks for the cc. |

In fact I removed several other birds all the same MO. This was clearly an oversight....missed that last one. He is now gone! |

You have done a great job with composition. Beautiful place for sure, one thing I might suggest is to tone down the vibrance of the image. It strikes me as either too vibrant or too saturated. I tried both and lifted the shadows, and in both cases it look more natural. All done in Lightroom. See what you think. |

Beautiful image and full pf color and light. Great leading lines to pull your eye into the image. I actually like the bright blue color of the monorail sign and it does not trouble me.....but I do get what Tom is saying. It is hard to drag your eyes beyond that point. I just find the other lights and colors bright enough that they draw me in. In fact during my first view I never looked at the foreground. The shiny streets and lights attracted me first.
Nice image Peter! Makes me want to visit Seattle! |

If I got up at 230Am to get there for Sunrise I would have probably done something drastic with this image. Not sure how everyone feels about it, but Sky replacement in Photoshop does a credible job (and when I replace I give a full disclaimer). I tried it with a very sedate sky and have attached it. I actually take images of beautiful skies wherever I go (just skys) and add them to photoshop afterword. I now even have a Collection in LR that I call Sky and Backgrounds.
So between the water and the rocks I would think this is a great image except for the sky and would give it a chance to see if I could match one with a little more interest. Ive attached a sample that I did in 5 minutes. See what you think and how you feel about it!

I can't resist birds in most forms....and I know how difficult it is to get a flock. There is always that one aberrant member or two, but in fact your image gives a nice view of a large group. Listening to your description of how long it took you sounds very similar to some of my experiences. Don't you wonder how they know when to come back and where to go? We have several spots around here (South Florida) that are night spots and watching them take off in the morning or come back in the evening is actually a wondrous site!
My one suggestion might be to play with white balance a little to eliminate the "gray" color of the sky. Just a tad darker or bluer, really up to your preferences, would take some of the "drab" gray color and highlight the swans better. Ive tried the simple WB to make it a tad bluer....but didn't try the darker (which I thought might make it seem more realistic since light was fading). |

Welcome to DD 73 - Beautiful sunset and the gull adds to the composition. Just as you thought it would. I've never done sunset over a lake since I have lived near oceans most of my "photography life" but I would be hard pressed to recognize that as a lake had you not mentioned it. The reflection of the sun on the water draws you in nicely to the bird on the wing and that sky is beautiful. Clouds really do bring out the beauty of either sunrise or set.
Unfortunately in South Florida we don't get sunsets, only sunrises on the ocean. But I've found the Everglades substitute nicely. |

Harsh light is tough to deal with, but the flowers are beautiful. I really like it in the lower left. Makes for a little more interesting composition. I like the shadows from the center of the flower. It gives it more depth. Under the lighting circumstances you did a really nice job! |

He is beautiful. Isn't it great to get a moment in time that is so special! Love the feet on this one. He is crisp and well exposed. The action is great. Just a really nice capture! |

Beautiful Great White Egret. Is this from this spring? Our Great whites are not showing the breeding colors yet...just the beautiful feather. The background is what you are faced with sometimes when shooting them in wetlands. I am not overly bothered by it, but do you have LR? latest edition? They have the select subject and then invert that would allow you to blur the background by using clarity and sharpness sliders on the background. If you've not tried it yet, give it a whirl on this one and you'll find it does a credible job. Won't make it into a really blurry background but will help some. I also might just crop it some on the right since you really don't need that much space for him to fly into. Just some thoughts to try. |

Beautiful, sharp capture of a very difficult bird. I find the small guys are almost impossible to get nice clean backgrounds. So would it be nice to have a clean background, sure, but it does not take away from the great capture of the bird. I just love that bright orange tuft on it's head! |

It was taken before the sun was up so it was pretty dark overall. And it was taken from a boardwalk though the Snowy was pretty close to eye level as he was flying up. I do have more room on the right but in the spirit of keeping it a standard size (which I would have to do for printing) I did not keep that part in ....could indeed be added back but then go to a wonky size. |
