The texture is what draws me into this image and then the shadows keep me moving on through the image acting like a leading line. Though I know the area is harsh, I find the image soothing in its simplicity and beauty.
Thanks for sharing this lovely image Peter!

Snowfall in Australia......what else has Mother Earth in store for us, particularly because we have created all these global problems.
I like the lighthearted approach and as I look at the image, I think I agree with Matt that you might consider cropping the image to make sure you have a line that is not straight down the middle. Your exposure was excellent since you did not blow out the snow and that light dusting on the trees is perfect to give the image some pop.
While I get what Janos is saying....I have Grandchildren that have lived their entire life in Florida and only rarely see snow (visits up north or skiing trips) and marvel at any landscape with snow! Janos lives with a lot of snow and it becomes "oh not another one" reaction vs. someone that has never seen snowfall. So yes documentary in nature but still a landscape just not some of those incredibly cold and desolate places he visits and photographs. |

Wonderful composition and processing on this to make the most of the barren land that would normally be "bland". But you have taken this and made it into layers with light and shadows. Beautiful job!
Im not sure I would have been able to stand up at that altitude since I have serious altitude sickness. But you have given me a chance to peak into this beautiful landscape! Thanks for sharing. |

I am so sorry I've not visited this astonishing place. Almost all my photo friends have done extensive photography there.....and I've never been. Shame on me! This image makes me wonder what kept me away! Gorgeous colors, sky, reflections, and scope. Wonderful! Someone has a tutorial about this and I'm thinking it is Matt Kloskowsi. I could not find the You Tube video but Im pretty certain I've seen one that actually does exactly what everyone is suggesting. I do think it would improve the impact, but you also want to maintain what the view really represents. So I f=get why you may say not my thing and I suspect most people would agree it is the artists's choice. Nice job!! Hope your knee is doing better! |

Just a beautiful image. Perfect autumn sunset. I do think I might remove some of the foreground .....but that is my preference...it would give you a beautiful leading line into the barn and sunset. The colors are spectacular! |

I know exactly what you mean and to get these two together is quite an achievement! I think you will find particularly with wildlife photography it is not at all unusual to have to use high ISO. Even if the sun is out and bright. I was using EV a lot for darker birds but on the new mirrorless I find it less helpful. I gave up on Auto ISO with the mirrorless as well since I was not really getting good results. The good news is with mirrorless you get realtime exposure in the viewfinder which is helpful.
My biggest challenge is going back and forth between my D500 and the Sony a7r4. The buttons are in different locations and I forget what I am using ! What I find is the D500 is exceptional when paired with the 500pf lens as long as you have good contrast. When you don't the lens is way to slow to latch on. While the Sony is really fast on AF with birds in flight regardless of contrast. So it really depends on your preferences. I still love my d500 but there are times the Sony way outperforms on auto focus if there is contrast. |

The reason the trees aren't level is they really aren't in this area of the wetlands, so I argued with myself and decided to leave them alone.....but I did try it and they really do look better straight.
Second Judy's suggestion about the sky too a little more effort. It was not a great day and mostly overcast, but changing the sky would not have helped the even light on the bird. So instead I played with HSL slider to improve the blue in the sky. |

Eagle month in Group 94. Fantastic portrait, but I also like the original as well. Those feet and claws are so big, reminds us how dangerous they are to their prey. I'm totally jealous between Sarita, Judy and you all showing me the splendor of eagles. |

Purple Gallinules are so pretty, and they are tough to get in clean backgrounds. I am usually fighting with Lily Pads everywhere when I photograph them. But perhaps a closer crop would help to isolate him more. I'm not sure how much you cropped off but given the original you sent me was 11 MB you probably have some room to play. Were you at 500 mm on the lens?
And yes, I see some noise as well but almost all on the background rather than the Gallinule. Denoise AI would help that. You also might consider desaturating the green to not have it quite so bright. |

I love the eagle!!! I'm jealous, I've been searching for one for 3 years now.....one of these days!
The bird's position is fantastic and the fish only adds additional interest. I totally get why you changed the background, but I might have used a more subtle sky, but totally would agree it needed to be changed. I have been collecting my own Skys to use in the native habitats I usually see the birds (even some that are blurred that I did on purpose). I now have quite a collection and just need to play a little with how to streamline the workflow for your own images within PS. But that will wait until after birding season is over this year.
BTW question could he be trying to eat it in the air. Some raptors will do that, just not sure Eagles are included. |

What an expert at camouflage. It looks like another leaf laying in the forest. Great eye! Like the others I would have probably passed it by, never knowing. Nice catch. |

Peter, I am not an expert on the impressionistic approach and I really like the image, but agree I would desaturate the yellow. I think that is really all it needs. I've attached an example of what that might give you. All I did was go under HSL and decrease the saturation of yellow. |

Sarita love that you got the two biggest competitors together! The action is fantastic and must have been fun to watch!
It is a tad soft. I just got one of two Osprey fighting over a fish and had the same problem with the first bird slightly out of focus and I was set on F/7.1, but they were farther apart. Some of the softness may be due to noise so I tried Topaz Denoise AI and it did improve it somewhat. I suspect the Osprey is a little soft because you were only using F 6.3 which did not give you high enough depth of field. It did help some though and I have attached the image. Christine suggested it was size but this was 1MB exactly so that would not have caused the issue.
If you've not tried Denoise AI, I highly recommend it. They have a month trial free and it is probably the best software I've ever used (except for LR/PS) but they can't do as good a job as Topaz for noise. They also have a Sharpen AI, which I have and rarely use unless I'm desperate. But when you are shooting birds in dark places and have to up your ISO to get a decent image I find it very helpful. Usually my image is sharp except for the noise from 1200 (or higher) ISO. In fact I find if I shoot a lower ISO and the image is darker there is even more noise, and you know if you don't have that shutter high you'll never freeze the action. So just my thoughts. |

I think this is a different issue. This image is 1 MB , rather than just 167kb. I am putting in comments on Sarita, but thought I would explain why I'm pretty sure these are not the same issue. |
