I don't disagree that it adds something which I originally thought when I commented. I really like the bridge and it enhances the environment, but I also like it in the cropped version pretending I didn't know the bridge was there! So it really gives Debbie some options depending on how she wishes to present the image. But I do think both are viable options.

Thank you Janos, I understand why you thought it was a fire, but interesting because not a drop fell and no wind. Just a little breeze. Unusual dynamics for sure. There was significant lightening beforehand but by this time it had stopped. It was a very unusual sky and weather. But it was incredible to watch the sky painting itself as the sun set. Since we are so flat I suspect that further west and south was in fact getting rain. You can see what looks like rain in the middle third of the image. |

Not yet but I am going to print it and see what it looks like. It is a pretty big file so should be able to print it large! |

We all have our own skill sets and all have some months better than others! I sincerely hope you find this a positive experience and grow your skills along with us. We can be a realistic bunch but none of us are perfect, and sometimes it is nice to get another opinion. But based on this image, I don't think you have a thing to worry about!
Guy has an idea, and I did try to see what it would look like. I'm attaching it. I was worrying about the tree looking funny, but it is not bad. I just cropped it to a 1x1 format and it doesn't look bad. |

First and foremost, Welcome Debbie!
I really like the image the building is beautiful and the light is amazing. I had one mentor that would kid me and tel me I should carry a chain saw in my camera gear for an occasion like this. Right, my backpack is way to heavy as it is...... I do not think you would be able to correct this in Photoshop, it would be way to complicated for my skill level, for sure.
The reflection is beautiful and pulls you right into the mill. Also that bridge is cool as well! The image is perfectly exposed given all the light and shadows. And sometimes we have to accept it for what it was, reality. I still really like the photo and find it soothing ! A symbol of a time gone by where life was not nearly so difficult!

Starbursts and rays are the theme this month apparently.
All of a sudden I've seen many beautiful images of Steptoe Butte. Not just here but on other sites I visit like Instagram and a couple of "groups on FB" It is quite beautiful. I love the play of light and the amazing topography in this image. There are amazing textures and colors and the rolling hill just pull you in. As always, Peter beautiful! |

You guys drive on the wrong side of the road!
I love the atmosphere, the angle of the sun rays, the road provides a nice leading line, and the car adds interest to the image. I really like this image and it is all about atmosphere. We'll done! |

Both you and David F. have starbursts this month. Peter has strong sun rays at sunrise, and Ian has Sun rays on a road. I think I did not get the message.
Just a beautiful area, I had to look up the location since I have never heard about it before!
The sunburst draws me into the image and that beautiful rock and the wave movement is sharp and clear. I might consider removing the two artifacts you have from the sun (far left and top right. They should be easy to remove....though I think some people like them.
Beautiful image! |

Those sunrise colors are beautiful. Interesting that you shot with film and then scanned and got an image you could print that large. It has been a long time since I shot film.....way too much work and I was not that proficient that I was sure it would come out that good. Very nice! Not knowing much about film cameras, usually with digital you use a high ISO to get the starburst.....so how did you get it with 5.6??? Would love yto know a little more...... |

Welcome to Group 94. I will be sending out info today and you can start in August!
They do not resemble each other at all but they were taken on the same day and in fact are two different birds. They are a pair hanging out in Wakodahatchee Wetlands and likely building a nest since this was taken in March. I happen to like the bird in the "original" better because you can see the bird in all its glory much better and see the variations of color with the way the birds wings are spread.but the background is distracting and I just wanted to start a conversation. The bill coloring in fact is in reality dark. as they age the bill becomes darker. The other bird is not as old. So changing the color of the bill is not something I would normally do....but you have to know the bird's variation to be aware of that . |

I have a 200-500 and it has a great price point, but you are correct hand held way to much shake. I have the 500PF , 80-400, and the 24-120 and use all of those all the time. But I rarely if ever use my 200-500. It works on safari when you are shooting from a Land Rover with sand bags but hand held it is impossible. I also tried the 300pf (rented it for a week) but it just does not have enough reach. The 500pf is a dream! No problems hand held at all. But where I shoot most of the time I can't afford to only take a prime too many time the bird is too close. I used it a lot in Kenya and loved it.
Got the Sony on Friday and it has rained pretty much since then. It also took me a full day to get the settings done. So hopefully this week I will be able to try shooting.
Take care and stay well!!! |

Those guys are too cute! Are they juveniles? Very inquisitive! I've not had the pleasure yet of capturing a waxwing, they are on my list to get one of these days. These two are charming and showing them interacting makes this image even better.
Really like the post processing. Surprised you got enough DOF out of 4.5 to get both of them in focus. But really nice job! |

Is this a Jaguar? Just a beautiful animal and a great image of him on the hunt. Love that tongue sticking out. They are really amazingly graceful and beautiful animals. I've not had the pleasure of seeing him in the wild, just at our local Zoo. You have captured him in his world, showing him interacting with his environment. Great image! |

Beautiful detail! I saw my first Scarlet Dragonfly within the past month. There are some old faithfuls in the wetlands here but this was a first. Their coloring is just beautiful! Like the diagonal lines and this is tack sharp. Nice ....... |

Very nice image of the flamingos. Are these lesser Flamingos? They don'e seem as brightly colored as the American Flamingo and remind me more of the flamingos I've seen in Africa.
I am surprised at how sharp they are throughout with a 6.3 F stop. Particularly as birds in flight. I do a lot of BIF and it is not easy. I still can only get maybe 30% sharp when I take a burst. are you using the 300pf or 200-500?
I love the symmetry of the group is is very pleasing to the eye and that diagonal line is fantastic. Very nice shot!
I really like my D500 it is very good at holding the focus while you are following them. I am about ready to give a Sony A7rIV a try.....we will see! |
