The eclectic nature of the wedding certainly comes out in this photo! They expressed their personal tastes and you captured that quirkiness nicely. I am sure it was difficult to shoot in such harsh lighting. I don't do people well, and when required I try to avoid the brightest part of the day. I give you credit for dealing with the environment the best you could! |

The late day colors are magnificent. And while I clearly put myself in the birder category (without birds in Florida as photography subjects it would be a very dull place to shoot) but have not had the pleasure of taking Whooping Cranes. My first encounter with Sandhill Cranes was this past March. They are quite lovely and it captured the moment superbly! Love the reflections. |

I very much like the silhouette. I agree the foot is not in a dancer's pose but I also happen to know they were youth so direction would probably have been the only way to go. I would crop out the pier. And trying as a BNW might be worth your effort! Ive taken shots of my granddaughter on the beach, but she was the critical one about which shots were acceptable posture and which I should discard without passing go!!! I also like the second one you put up.Nice job! |

The shot has a great deal of color and energy! The darkening Dave did improves the shot a great deal. It is a great shot of the ambiance of the museum. and there is a really unique story it in the telling! |

Shirley - I have the entire reflection but there are out of focus plants that I felt were distracting.I have attached the original without the crop. Your thoughts as to whether the greenery is distracting?
Richard - Yes the bird lives on fish (similar to flamingo) which gives it the pink color. They are in breeding colors here so color is much more intense and see original for entire reflection without the crop.
Dave - So my choice was simple, get the shot right then and there with 1/1600 or take the time to decrease exposure. I was trying to get the bird in the tree right next to it in flight (another spoonbill) and the bird had just gone from 1 foot to 2 so I thought he was going to take off...and I saw this happening. Just not quick enough. It was a conscious choice to accept the high ISO and just take the chance I could bring out the shadows .....So I get what you are saying, just I could not react quickly enough. |

I tried to get the Cross with blue sky behind it and at 15mm I could have, BUT way too much other junk in the shot, and I very much wanted that specific angle. I really thought it complemented the angles nicely. I tried using photoshop to edit out the side mirror from the van and maintain the full tree, but i'm not skilled enough to make it look natural. Oh well one of these days I'll find a great PS class and really learn it! |

I agree long exposure is a possibility, but this sky is pretty moody as it stands now. But the clarity in the water at the forefront would have been compromised a great deal with long exposure. There is always give and take and then the photographer must decide what she/he is trying to achieve. A long exposure would be a very different image than this one, both equally viable. I think it would be interesting for us to perhaps do something like that one month. Perhaps do a long exposure and a crisp exposure and have the photographer chose their favorite and have the "original" the alternate. Anyone want to play????? I'll send out an email and perhaps we can plan it for August, giving everyone time to fool around with it! Anyone have any thoughts? |

I think I like your alternate better the detail on that boat is awesome, but I know exactly why you added the mossy stones. What if you cropped some of the sky out to use the mossy stones more as the leading line to the abandoned boat? So your eye catches the boat while being drawn through the rocks. Just some random thoughts that give you some things to think about. The rocks would have been awesome if you were able to be at ground level and shooting through the stones. I know way too late to do anything about it!!!
Regardless of all the dialogue the image is strong and very much a preference choice.
BTW when you have the chance you will LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Iceland! |

Great leading lines, beautiful sky, and buildings are nice and straight. I like this shot very much. You clearly have a love of the dramatic skies and blue/golden hour. Love it! |

Really love the misty valley (almost looks like you used a really long exposure to make smooth water) and sky with the wispy clouds adds to the image. The foreground is too dark though and no detail is really visible. What if you cropped it at the bottom to minimize that very dark bottom? I might try right below the dark spot in the mist. I tried to increase the shadows and it made little difference so I think there are not enough pixels to bring anything out, so your best bet might be just to minimize it. I really like the image overall and love that you were high enough to catch the mist before it burned off. |

Nice depth to the photo with great ending lines and good layers with a defined fore, mid and background. Nice moody skies and nice reflections of the rocks. The image draws me in and makes me look all through the scene. Nice image! |

Really interesting concept and building. So why did they build it over a dry dock? Just curious as to the reasoning behind putting something that ultra modern on an old structure. The angle you get from the MAVIC certainly gives you a great perspective. Surprised the drone with a Hasseblad on board is so grainy. That may well be because of the size requirements , in which case nothing you can do about that! Im not into drones since much of what I shot is in wetlands that forbid use of drones because of their impact on wild animals and birds. I would crop more heavily on the bottom of the shot because I don't think the water holds enough interest. Just not sure what your limitations are on drone shots. Are they really just video that you pull the frame out of or can you actually take a still photo? I would really be interested in your thoughts on drones and their application. |

David this reminds me of Iceland. we saw numerous abandoned boats in the West Fjords. I wonder if the foreground is essential to your story....This might be better with the moss covered stones cropped out and make it al abut the abandoned ship and the sky. Not sure what you think of that idea, but play with it and see if you focus on the boat and sky you improve the composition. Not a thing wrong with the current, you have a foreground, middle and background (sky), but just not sure the stones add anything. |
