You are spot on. It looks cramped. And I had plenty of room in the raw file so here is the shot with additional space at the top. Did you notice I also have another critter on the image? I found it when doing the original crop and meant to mention it, then forgot! |

Lovely photo and the added textures make it look more like a painting than a photograph. I think that is what you were aiming for and you certainly accomplished that nicely. |

Beautiful shot of mountains and wildflowers. The clouds add great deal of texture and moodiness to the image. Like it a lot. |

I played with this a little and I really think it is just the crop.....I took off some on the left and bottom to take away the distractions in those areas. It ended up more of a panorama and looked pretty good.
The colors are beautiful and that whirlpool of the colorful leaves is gorgeous. Since your eye is drawn by those oranges immediately take away all the extra stuff and allow the eye to go there. There is really no leading line but the color pop, so make that the highlight of the shot.
Just some random thoughts, but I really like the image and especially those beautiful fall colors. |

Nice !!!! Like the placement in the frame and the shape of the bird nicely. Good wing position. Clear and sharp with the clouds and pale blue sky in the background contrasting nicely with the dark bird. Gotta love those Great Blue Herons. I would remove the dust spot at the bottom center, but that is a minor issue. |

the colors of the trees are stunning particularly with the angle of the light. I think I might have cropped this a little differently, but that is a personal preference. The noise is significant and somewhat distracting, but that may be due to the low res images that we have to use for the website.
Was this the trip where you were in a blind all night? Ive never shot bears, primarily because their habitat is so very cold! But they are facinating creatures. |

The thing here is that many folks do like the clouds like that, but I think it is personal preference. Do you feel the same way about smooth water? To me they are equivalent requiring in camera work to make it happen.
In general, most people like the effects that long exposure can give, but some folks are much more into the crisp and clean shots that reflect exactly what the eye beheld. I am somewhere in the middle and I love smooth water as any one in the group will attest to! Star trails is another one that some people don't care for and others love. It is really all about the viewers tastes! |

Will most certainly let you know if I am coming! I love your DC series, they are some spectacular shots.....I tried multiple years to get cherry blossoms and they were so unpredictable, but this year they are fantastic! I lived right outside Baltimore just before the move here. So I have lots "if only" from those places!! I loved Annapolis for photography, that might be worth your while. The town is so quaint and the sailboats are special! Eastern Shore is pretty spectacular as well. |

Beautiful image of a unique and stunning city! I love the clouds and smooth water, and the buildings are all sharp and clean. Well worth taking the time off to shoot this photo!
You know in all my years in NJ I never once photographed the NYC skyline even though I visited Liberty State Park several times. I was too busy working a demanding job and raising 2 girls :-). When we went it was as a family not as a photographer. I regret that immensely now. Some day I will have to go and visit just to get some of those shots! |

I love this landscape, love how the rocks lead me into the dramatic sky. The waves say to me crashing on the rocks. Making them smooth would not be appropriate in this image IMHO. I think you maintained them as photographed. I might have considered taking a shorter exposure to see how I liked it. Might this be a good time for a bracketed shot? I've not done that on water, because it is rare for me not to do smooth water......just some thoughts!
Powerful sky and image !

I like the overall image and I really looked at the crop Ian did, and agree with you that it takes your focus off the trees a little by dwarfing them. And my preference is for the original colors but I recognize you did that very intentionally and that is surely the artist's choice. I very much like the criss crosses in the snow on the hillside. Provides some interest and intrigues me. The one thing I would have done is remove the high tension line on the far left. But that again is a very personal thing ( I hate high tension lines and don't even like to stand near them).
And will give you props for making me think VERY COLD!!! |

I don't think I would go lower with it, I like the symmetry of the Trains ( think that is what they are) from two different gaps. They lead my eye through the shot. Knowing how complicated this structure really is, would give me a headache trying to figure out what the best spot really would be for a photo. It certainly has engaged some good photographers, and I bet the selfies are unbelievable.
Overall I like your view, the sky looks a little blown out to me but clouds make it a challenge sometimes. But after climbing all the way up...I certainly would not care about the clouds. |

The colors are beautiful! Reflections are pristine. But you need some one on top of the mountain or on the road to give some perspective to it. Given it is near where you live, ought to give a second try and get someone in the shot. It is certainly a crisp and clean image regardless. I don't picture California quite so green, but I have been seeing all the poppy fields and they are absolutely beautiful. Have you ever tried to capture them? Not even sure how close it is to your world. |

In Iceland I used a tripod a great deal. Here at home using it for birds gets really tiresome for my arm, particularly since I also use the battery grip. In retrospect, I think I would have been better off with the D500 in combo with 200-500 given I am doing so many birds. When I got the 850 it was not something I saw myself doing frequently. But I have realized that birds are king in the South Florida area. I may decide to pick up a refurbished D500 instead. I have had decent luck with the other refurbs and in combination with the 200-500 would give me more reach. I am coveting the new 500PF prime ....really light which would make a huge difference. But it is pretty pricey and very difficult to get. I have friends that have waited 6-8 month. But given all that the 850 for landscapes is awesome! |
