I did not pick up that this was looking downward! It looks like an entirely different picture knowing it is looking down, not up! Amazing , knowing the correct perspective provides a whole new appreciation!!

It started out as darker but I was trying to get the setting to allow the birds in flight to be at least be recognizable (thus the higher ISO and F stop - knew I could not get it in the the thousand range but these were seagulls that were floating on the currents) Luckily the sun just peaked through as I took the shot.
Lowering the exposure also makes the "Lighthouse" and sand very dull and not well defined at all. That sun peaking up really did brighten the scene a great deal. It actually starts to get light there at 430AM. |

Isn't nature beautiful! I might consider a little more contrast but either way beautiful shot worth framing! |

This is a dreamy picture and the colors are wonderful. Don't think I have ever tried to capture sunrise from the sky! But I will try next time! Great shot! |

Admire anyone that can do Lighthouse stairs! And I knew instantly what your subject was! Great shot! Interesting that you should post this. I just returned from Nantucket and Great Point Light was a stop we made. They allowed us to go up to the top, BUT the last leg was up a ladder (not stairs) and I am fearful of heights. So I elected to stay below and shoot the stairs. It is VERY difficult to get the angle right ( I think it took me 40 shots to get something that did not yell at me "delete") . I even went and got my wide angle and still very hard. Appreciate the skill that went into taking this shot. |

Nice catch! Love her expression and she looks like she is having a great time. Were you able to get her email to forward the pic to her? I think that is always a cool thing to do! |

I totally understand being out of your comfort zone. I have never done portraits willingly! I attempted with a family member and decided I would just take a gun and shoot her. So many hours of complaining and trying to meet her needs (and her mother's) - ugh!
So while I clearly don't know enough about portraits, I like this very much. I love the "flow" of the scarf. The lines bring me right into the face. I agree with Dave I would darken the one really bright spot on her right eye. I might also consider lightening that one tiny crease on the scarf (right below that same eye). I find my eye being drawn to that too easily. All in all I really like the shot! |

My preference is original 2. Took me some time to figure out the Owl (finally realized you were talking about the one peak), but I don't really understand the reference to Garfield. But then I am not a graphic novel kinda person. I believe he is a cat ?
I don't, in general, use filters, but I know many that do and swear by them. |

Gorgeous colors! I miss fall in Florida, but then I get great winter weather so not sure I would be willing to give that up.
This is framed beautifully and love the water streams. I agree with Ian, I would be tempted to take the little bit of tree out in top left corner. But it is still a beautiful shot. I would suspect wherever you were standing to get this angle was pretty slippery, so staying steady could well have been a balancing act! Great job. |

Isn't it interesting the old vs. the new? While in Milan I took a shot of an old church right up against a mirrored, curved, new building. I know the church will still be standing in 200 years, but not so sure about the slick new building.
Shooting up is tough to get the angles right, but your composition takes your eye in a full circle. My eye takes me counterclockwise. I suspect I must have a preference for the old! Very different shot, but I really do like it ! |

Beautiful image Peter! Love the overall composition and I am a sucker for smooth waters! The layers are great, drawing your eye into the diagonal lines of the rock. And to top it off the golden rays of sunset add beautiful color to the image. Nicely done, for sure! |

You are correct, you see some lighter aura on the right, but the interesting thing is that I did not sharpen this picture . I used dehaze because of the ever-present fog that was rolling inland. Could that have created the halo? I went back to the original and while there is a slight amount of halo on the top not noticeable on the rest......I'll have to play with it a little to figure out the cause.
EV+ because I forgot to take it off from the previous shot :-). I have not used EV very often but since I started to take birds in flight it has been an essential tool when I don't want to blow out the bird's white feathers (-EV)or black feathers(+EV). |
