So I think it is a mating ritual and the one on the right stayed on the nest, while the other one flew away. In my research I found they do have a "mating dance". I've seen Sauer Cranes do a similar thing (though admittedly on the ground) and they are impressive. I think that is what it was, but it might have been a fight. No blood was evident and there was all kinds of vocalization which is why I assume mating ritual. Maybe we have a bird expert in the group that can confirm blue heron and knows about mating rituals. Thanks for the advice about saturation. |

Interesting, with the Lightroom profiles I had to desaturate even with using the "standard" profile. I suspect I am going to have to play with the new LR Classic a while before I get all the nuances down. I also switched to the D850 which has raw files of 49MB so between them there is some serious learning curve! |

Were you on a boat to get this shot? Was this golden hour, the lighting is superb? Dave is right, the horizon is spot on! This would probably print well as a canvas , might even work as a tryptch. I find canvas is often very complementary of golden lighting like this. Really love this image. I have not been to St. Augustine (yet) but certainly should consider making the effort. |

Very nice. Like the texture which is nicely highlighted by the lamp. Gives feeling of 3D almost. Nice leading lines. It is interesting in that the light clearly is the subject, but I find myself looking through the whole photo because of the texture and lines. |

Great capture, were you super close to all the activity? Love the effect of the steam on the sun, hazing it a bit and creating the rays. I really like the image and that mysterious/dangerous feel only enhances. Very nice. |

The colors are muted but that certainly does portray the ravages of the sun and time. Curious to know what they are "selling" merchandise is not apparent. Your picture conveys the environment effectively. |

Love the expression. The orange really makes it pop off the pure white snow. Surprised you could get the clarity with the lens you were using! Very crisp and clear despite equipment. It is all about the skill of the photographer. Very nice. |

You are right the color is too saturated. I was working with he new Lightroom profiles (which BTW totally slog down your computer unless you have 12GB RAM) and I was struggling with trying to tone it down. Did not try saturation, but will do so and post in a reply. |

David, I got Steve Perry's ebook on auto focus. It is quite good and provided some insight into some of the challenges I have been having! Particularly when shooting birds in flight! I am about 50% through the material, he covers a great deal of information. Thanks for the great suggestion. Anyone else in the group that it is a Nikon user, recommend this e-book highly. It really breaks it down in easy to understand segments. Thanks Dave!!!! |

Beautiful reflections and not very grainy since you used iso 100. |

Lightroom and Photoshop both have capability for you to stitch together. Thou I will admit I have never tried stitching an Astro photo. |

Great image. Love it! Arches is so beautiful. And I just heard a presentation that 1/15 is perfect speed for astrophotography. |

Very mysterious looking. The clouds and rain make it so. Somewhat grainy have you ever tried NIK software as a filter on your Photoshop or Lightroom for reducing grain? Works better than adobe in my opinion. Define 2
Like the placement of the rock, it leads your eye right into the scene. |

Spectacular! Just a beautiful location and special lighting. How low were you? Looks like you might be laying on the sand. But whichever your angle makes the shot. |

Thanks, since this is landscapes I needed to restrain myself. But this state is wetlands and beaches. So limited opportunity for landscapes. |

Thanks for the tip, I really like Steve Perry so will put it on my reading list. This was on a tripod and I always focus on the eyes. In wildlife photography if you don't have the eyes you don't have the shot. It was very low lighting since this was at sunrise which is why tripod and 1/50.
I love the 850! Just don't have full comprehension of all the bells and whistles. |
