OK. last try.....this came from camera without the swan (which looked blue because it was in the shadows, i had two with and two without - not photoshopped out) and this particular shot does not have the bridge straight in the middle. It does have more blue in the front left, most likely reflection of the sky (and probably a little boat oil mixed in to give that strong sheen). |

Dropped the exposure a bit as Dave suggested but now it looks flat. Going to have to play with his version since it does not appear as flat. Dave could you email me your exposure change in Lightroom so I can try and replicate your exposure? thanks |

Different. Looks like she is standing on a backdrop. |

Sunrise is my favorite shooting time. This captures those golden rays on the structure and leads you right through to the fort. Agree that people give it sense of size and distance. Your sky is easily 55-60% of your frame, I think I would crop the shot some to balance it better. While the sky is beautiful, it does not have the texture or vibrant colors that would make me want it such a dominant player in the shot. |

I like the color version better. I think the color adds more detail, but both have their own "aura". I think the color one is more menacing looking and the black and white looks like a thing of the past......I guess that is wishful thinking! |

I suspect I was trying to over compensate for the very dark edges of the bridge. It does look a little better dropping the exposure a small amount. One of my cohorts suggested I should crop and just use the reflections and leave off the "real picture". I could not go back any further than I did to get more of the canal, unless I jumped into the water (not something that would be advisable). Thanks for your thoughts! |

Great leading lines. and yes, the leaves are hanging on this year. Like the bridge's stones which adds some nice texture to the picture. |

Agree with Richard, too white for my tastes, but you have frozen the action well and his expression is priceless. I think i would like to see more color in the waves behind him to put it in better context . Obviously some people must like the Hi Key technique.....I would prefer to highlight him, which is clearly the reason for the picture. |

Great shot. the light seems to spotlight the temple and the teen in the foreground complements the other colors. Clouds were cooperating for sure. The longer I look at it the more detail I see. Very nice. |

So I decided to try NIK and use the detail extractor to pull out the background. Any thoughts? |

Not at all. This is about learning and anything I can come away with is one step closer! One of my goals for this year is to learn PS better, but my trip interfered with the class. So now I am waiting for winter session. I am pretty good in LR but struggle with Photoshop. I can handle the easy things like content aware healing and patch tool .....but other things not so good, despite listening to all of their online tutorials. And now they have thrown it all up in the air and changed things with their latest release. I have CC so have access to both. Thanks! |

I did take this in afternoon so there was really harsh sunlight. So that is most certainly a lesson learned. It was back in my hotel room. This was the afternoon I arrived and significant jet lag and fatigue said leave the backpack in the room and only take your camera......so that first day had many regrets.
Annecy is really into sailing, made me feel like I was in Annapolis,MD (my previous home base ). One of my favorite places to go and shoot was Chesapeake Bay/City Dock (just no mountains as a backdrop). |

Any suggestions on how you would bring out the detail in the mountains? I tried de-hazing because the mist seemed to be a constant in the area (even with a beautiful blue sky) so all of my shots have that lack of detail to some extent. I also tried using a filter but that did not work. Perhaps using one of the sharpening presets? Any suggestions welcome. |

The angle and leading lines are great. For my tastes this is over processed. But that is just my tastes, there are many that feel differently and really like HDR like photography. Focus is sharp and composition great. I love lighthouses, and this one is a beautiful setting. |

Love the coastline and your leading lines take you directly back to the beautiful colorful water. One suggestion - might want to use a ND filter or just slow down the shutter speed to make the front water more blurred. Of course that means a tripod and I am not sure that is possible in this environment. The power of nature certainly come through. Very nice picture. |

Grand canyon is always a great photo opportunity. I might try removing the very booth scrub. Not sure it adds anything to the picture and distracts you a little from what you want the viewer to focus on...the Canyon. |

Love the white water, had you considered taking the far left off group of leaves? Perhaps cloning/patching and making them the smooth water? The rest of the picture is nicely framed. I do "border patrol" to check and make sure there aren't any extraneous things at the border and try to remove them if possible. Just a thought. The picture reminds me of a foggy morning and water falls give you great opportunities. So I find this a very soothing picture. Just out of curiosity, how was this in color? |

Peter, this is beautiful. The layers are incredible, and the low hanging clouds as a backdrop to the wildflowers is wonderful. Really nice job! I never realized Mt St. Helens had that much greenery and wildflowers! Thanks for sharing. |

I love sunset pictures on the water. I have quite a collection of my own! But the atmosphere created by the rocks makes this one special.
One idea you might want to consider is increasing the exposure on just the shadows to lighten them up and give more texture to the rocks. I tried on the small size and it increased the noise a good amount so did not want to post. But ... in Develop Module of LR under basic there is a shadow slider that you can use to lighten the shadows -move it to the right to see if it brings more texture into your rocks. If you don't like it no harm done and you can return it to where you started.
