Hi Laurie. This is so lovely and simple.
I like the composition and crop you have chosen, with the small twist at the bottom right and the choice of direction :) |

Hi Marcela - this is beautiful :) I love the juxtaposition of the old, colourful bark, the autumn leaves, and the new, green growth appearing.
I agree with other comments about the rock, and I might also darken down the upper left background a little. |

Hi Janis. I like the clarity of the wings and the blurred background. The well-focused wings give interest, as I can follow the details.
I, too, would suggest toning down the sign a little, so I can focus more on the butterfly. Well done :)

Hi Nelson. well done on this image. I also have tried focus stacking, with mixed results, unfortunately. I will keep trying, however, as I like what you have done here.
Your choice of dark background and the double frame works very well. |

Wow Cindy, I love this image. It's so interesting - I've never seen an octopus cactus before.
I love it just the way it is :) |

Hi Jessica. I love the colours in this image, and the directional lines. I also like the dimension you have captured. The only thing I feel that would improve it is, as Laurie mentioned, removing the dark area on the lower right. |

Hi Witta. I went to a wonderful workshop some time ago, where the photographer talked about images that had multiple points of interest. He said often these types of images can become too busy and confusing, and you find they don't hold people's attention. People might say they don't really love it, but don't know why.
He got us to close our eyes, and open them looking at an image. Where did our eye go immediately, before we'd even thought about it?
I found he had used light and contrast to create a point of interest that drew my eye initially, and then my attention stayed in the image, travelling naturally around several components in a kind of circle.
I have experimented with this since, using light, colour and contrast to create a natural path for the eye to linger. It doesn't have to be a circle - just a connection.
Hope this makes some sense to you :) |

Hi Karen - what a wonderful, creative image.
I too would tone down the greens on the left hand side, and maybe bring out the tree a little more, as you have made your model part of the tree.
I always love red! Well done :) |

Hi Bunny. Thank you for sharing your set-up. It's given me some new ideas to try. You are right, the more we can prepare and do in camera, the better the result in the end.
I like the diagonal line of the flowers, and I am intrigued by your thought to remove the yellow from the flowers. I like the result. |

Hi Jim - I love the composition of this shot, with the angles and the busyness of the people in the street. I agree with the other comments about the sky. There are many ways to do this. I do also like Georgianne's interpretation - again, there are many ways to present the image artistically. It's fun to play with ideas.
Well captured! |

Hi Connie. This is lovely - like painted Chinese silk.
I too would remove the blurred twigs and also just the bright blue spot on the upper left.
I like the texture in the background, it all works really well together :) |

Hi Witta. What an interesting arrangement of tools! I can see why you photographed it. I like the way you have given it dimension.
To me, I would like you to make my eye travel in a path around the tools. A circle of interest would work with the dimension you have created to make the image pop.
The high contrast of the chicken wire makes me feel the tools are caught and tangled in it, creating a story. However, I do agree that the contrast is a little too high and could be toned down a bit - not too much.
The LUTs have added character to the image, and it is great that your image has sparked a discussion on aesthetics :) |

Hi Georgianne. What a lovely capture - you have done very well with a cell phone image.
I have the Halide app on my cell phone. It gives me both RAW and JPG images. The RAW images are not as good as those from my camera of course, but I do get a lot more to play with. And our cell phones seem to always be with us! The app been great whenever I haven't had my camera with me.
Well done :) |
