45 Mar 18 Comment Oh those eyes! That is the secret to this photo. What a face on this dog - I can see why you grabbed your camera and captured this image. The cropping is wonderful, focus perfect, and I love how you cloned in some of the background, with black across the top of the image. This eliminates any background distraction and draws the viewer right in to the dog's face and eyes. Mar 15th
45 Mar 18 Comment Nicely done, Don, in keeping the front and back of this image in focus. The f/16 aperture certainly helped. You brought out the colors appropriately. This is not overdone - which is easy to do with such color. Mar 15th
45 Mar 18 Comment I think this is cropped well, Ed. And I agree, the square framing suits this image nicely. Good eye in seeing the face through the rods. You did an excellent job erasing the tower in the background, and you have included enough foreground to get that colorful red reflection in the water. Mar 15th
45 Mar 18 Comment The wide angle of the lens has caused the frame on the left side of the image to lean in toward the left. This can be somewhat fixed in some of the programs such as Lightroom and Luminar. This is difficult to remember when we frame an image in our eyepiece, but when shooting with wide angle, we should try and get any tall objects more towards the center of the frame so there will be less lens distortion. Shifting the image to the left will also eliminate some of the empty space on the right side of the image. Horizon looks tilted, downsloping from left to right. Crop out more sky. Mar 15th
45 Mar 18 Comment Ray, the trees certainly do a nice job of naturally framing this image. Good for you for seeing this and knowing you wanted to image this scene. It's a reminder that we all need to look around us and imagine an image before we use our camera. I struggle with what to do with the tree on the left side of the frame. It is partially in the frame. Is this a distraction? Probably not for most people. If you attempt to crop it out entirely, then you have lost much of the image. Mar 15th
45 Mar 18 Reply I really struggled with the cropping, Cindy. You are correct about the vastness on the right side of the image. I agree. I think I could crop off a little bit more without losing the feeling of "wide open space". Thanks. Mar 11th
45 Mar 18 Reply Don - you bring up a good point about the blue shadow. I think some unnatural blue tint got introduced during my tweaking process in Lightroom. I'll go back to the original file and check, but I think I'll need to back off on the blue slider in the HSL module. Thanks. Mar 11th
