Isaac, sorry I just notice that I did not include my square crop version of your image so here is. For my eye I like to spectators and stands since they add context to the scene, however a little narrower crop seems to emphasize the riders. Bruce |

Hey Tom, I want the big guy on my team. Welcome to group 59, looking forward to seeing more of your images. I look for images that tell a story to give the viewer interest. Your image really does that, (David vs Goliath} . As Don said, I would like to see a little more of the image if it is available or perhaps a little less. Bruce |

Gerald, Your original image stands out for me from the others for several reasons. 1. Really sharp 2. The arch formed by the water around the subject 3. Viewer can see the face . A very fine image that makes the viewer appreciate the skill required to execute surfing skills. Bruce |

Andre, the scene showing the stars, blue sky, and golden sunset make your images stand out from others. The rider is a bit small in the frame for my old eyes but still an impressive image. Bruce |

Ronald, your image could be use to demonstrate good technique for a golf swing. I am not a golfer but as physical education teacher studied proper technique for many sport skills. I like you narrow format that eliminates unnecessary features in the image. Bruce |

Isaac, I like how the first four riders form a triangle and the wavy surface of the track. I also like how you can see the faces of two riders. The spectators and tents on the right side seemed to draw my eye away from the riders so cropped a bit off by making a square composition. Bruce |

Hey Maria, Wow lucky you to travel to so many places filled with awesome opportunities for photography. I would love to be your porter. American Avocets are a favorite of mine so was pleased to see your image. For my eye, the image is a little flat and underexposed. Even though I like reflections, this one just did not seem to add interest so offer a vertical crop with brightened levels for you to look at. Have a great time on your travels, and hope you get some nice images for us to view. Bruce |

Richard, When I first bought a copy of photoshop, I bought it for $13 in Sophia, Bulgaria and put it away for over a year because it looked so complicated. Then feeling guilty of buying a hacked version I purchased it from Adobe. I found that studying it really perked up my brain having to remember the things I was studying. I have never seen the value of using lightroom so have always used the full version of photoshop, but am pretty sure that everything I did to your image would also be available in Lightroom. There are so many tutorials on line now that you can get easy info on all the techniques. Do you shoot in raw format? If not you will not be sorry if you start. |

Richard, I took a second look at your image and made a few adjustments for you to consider.
1 I cropped some of the right side to create a triangle from the three remaining subjects and eliminate some of the negative space on the right side that to my eye did not add much interest.
2.Using photoshop raw filter I isolated the background and tried to blur it a bit to help hide the many dark specs or sensor dust specs. This helped but still left many dark specs.
3. Also using the raw filter, I used the clone tool to remove more of the specs. You can use this tool to visualize then specs and then click on each one to remove it
4. I increased the contrast and darken the clouds to make the subjects stand out a bit.
5. Even using 2 and 3, there were still many dark specs so in photoshop I used the remove tool to eliminate the rest of them.
6. Using Adobe Topaz Labs I removed noise and increased sharpness.
Please keep in mind that these are only suggestions that I am making and of course you are the maker so hope these might use them. For me this forum and I look for these ideas from other members to help me improve but sometimes do not agree with their ideas. Bruce |

Maria, even with few details an image can tell a story that is worth exploring with the eyes, yours surely has does this. Very nice. I included a version that might also work for you to look at with the left side cropped. For me this area seems to draw away the eye from the important area of the image. Bruce |

Thanks Maria, I have also seen elephants missing their tail after an attack from lions, they are amazing animals and feel fortunate to have had the chance to see them in the wild. Bruce |

Isaac, Thanks for sharing the information on molting, I had never thought about penguins molting since they can not fly. It looks like one is a contrary facing away from the other. Bruce |

Richard, welcome to group 72, will look forward to seeing many of your images. You present an interesting image with cool reflections. Not an easy scene to capture. The reflection of the clouds is also interesting. My eyes are not great, but the birds look a little soft on my screen.

Sanat, I agree with the others regarding the crop, for me the negative space on the left does not add interest to the photo and puts the bird directly in the middle with little space to move into across the frame. I have included an alternative crop for your consideration. Bruce |

Thanks Jerry, good play on words, Yes the shoulders are really smooth, thus the name of waxwing. There are two varieties in the USA one called cedar waxwing and the other bohemian waxwing. Bruce |

Cindy, A very nice image of the Yellow Rump. I have not heard them call Butter Butt but that is certainly appropriate. I have one coming in to my feeders now but it has been to fast for me to get an image. Your image has nice detail, is sharp , with a nice pose and nice perch. The Yellow in the feathers really is nice with the blue sky. A very nice image indeed. Bruce |
