Hey Ron, I was the Faculty advisor to the Brigham Young University Lacrosse team many years ago and got to travel with the team so even though I did not know much about it, I still got to learn about it. Your image is sharp with good action. I really like the detail of the muscle definition. I did a suggested crop eliminating the man in the background and straightened the horizon. Bruce |

Hey Gerry, You captured a beautiful scene with this one. I do not care for the guy walking on the beach as a sports image, but tried to catch the beautiful scene and the surfer as well . Bruce |

Isaac, you really caught this one at the right moment with the surfer upside down. The blurred background makes the surfer stand out. I thought that cropping a bit off the bottom would help focus more on the surfer. Really cool image., Bruce |

Isaac, thanks for your comment, The children who were killed, the day before and not on the team we were playing, The children in the area surrounding Gulu were know as the invsiible children and had to walk up to five miles each night to stay in a school gymnasium in the town to avoid the rebels who would attack their huts in the bush. Thank goodness the rebels have moved on to the Congo. It is believed that he and his army have killed over 100,000 peole Bruce |

Don,Thanks for your comments, the players that were killed were not on this team but part of the Kampala Kids league program. The photograph does not show the sidelines but the are nearly 1,000 locals watching. Uganda is a great country with many problems. The area around Gulu was terrorized by Joseph Coney who would come at night and Kidnap children. The maid of our host was attending her grandmothers birthday when Coney raided her live in school using hand grenades to get in and abducted 100 children to fight in his army. He has left Uganda and is now in The Congo. Bruce |

Don, you got everything right in camera with this one. Your image tells a story that makes the viewer ask questions which makes for a successful image. Well done. Bruce |

Adrian, I also like the splash to make a more dynamic image. The view from above is not ideal but not much you can do to change from a boat. Bruce |

Leah, I have not tried focus stacking so can not advise using this. I like the crop from Isaac because it eliminates the lower part which is not adding anything of interest to the image. For my eye, the bright background also distracts from the flower but inside a building it is not possible to shot at another angle. One hint might if you are using a zoom lens it that the closer you can get to the subject the more the background will be blurred. Bruce |

Hey Barbara, What a cutie this guy is. I love the puffy cheeks. I do find the large part of the stump on the right distracting. Here is my crop realizing that this makes a large crop and this is only a suggestion. I made a square crop for you to consider. Bruce |

Hey Chris, Welcome to another Washingtonian. I have lived in Tacoma for nearly 50 years after Coming to Tacoma to teach Physical Education. Everything is perfect technically with great color, great sharpness, great background and great subject. The eye of the subject bird is amazing. I do agree with Isaac about the second bird being distracting and being in front. Looking forward to seeing much more of your work. Bruce Benson |

Thanks Isaac, I remember that you mentioned Viera Wetlands was not a productive area any more so did not stop there on my way from Orlando the St Augustine last week. Viera was one of my favorite places and always productive for me. I had a great time at the Alligator Farm and only stayed in Florida for three days so spent all of my time there. I got some awesome images and decided to spend most of my time there in one location towards the end of the boardwalk. I think it really paid off rather that chasing around. Bruce |

Wow Isaac, a really nice image of a soft shelled turtle. I have photographed several of these guys but nothing as nice as this one. I did get an image of a Crested Cara Cara eating one at Viera Wetlands. Bruce |

Jerry, nice composite, You did a nice job blending them all together. I would like to see a little more of the nest in the base layer, it is pretty close to the edge of the frame. Bruce |

Sanat, Nice image showing the environment this bird lives in. Cropping in about one inch would still leave a environment and enhance the bird. Bruce |

Marge, It was nice of the hawk to pose for you like this. Nice blurred background enhances the image making the bird pop. I agree with the bottom if there is any more room. Bruce |

Steve, I also really enjoy photographing sandhill cranes and have visited Bosque Del Apache National Wildlife Refuge in New Mexico many times. There is nothing like the sound of thousands taking off all at the same time of seeing them stick their necks out to indicate they are going to fly. Then there is the dancing and jumping. I have also walked along side of two parents and a colt in Florida as the forage in the marsh. There are used to people so often walk with in a few feet of you . You have captured the environment they live in well. I would like to see a wider angle with more birds, but still a nice image. Bruce |

Hey Cindy, Very nice image this month. You have a great clean blurred background, not always easy to get when photographing hummers. I really like the pose and the way the head and beak are not obstructed by the flower at. Well done. Bruce |
