Don I always love a good action soccer image. It looks like there was pretty harsh light and like the adjustments Isaac made. I am not a fan of cars in sports images and try to position myself to avoid them and especially porta potties and fat guys with not shirt on. As Ron said you can't always be in the perfect spot. Hans, The angle of the plane, the spray, the nice colors and the clouds all combine to make a fine image. I also like the original image, it seems to be a little sharper. Like Isaac, I have also seen this type of plane working in the wheat fields of the Palouse region where I live in Washington state.Bruce |

Isaac, I am pretty sure that this was full frame so cropping would not be practical. For me the most important thing in sports photography is the story that is told, for instance the look on the players, even the official and the action of the kick both add to the interest of the image. I have been fortunate to have the opportunity to photograph high level soccer from professional down to 8/9 year olds who have signed contracts with some of the best teams around the world. Bruce |

Hey Ronald, sorry to say that the slower shutter speed was just a mistake on my part and not something to be creative. I normally try to stay at least1/1000. Thanks anyway but can not take any credit for being creative. Bruce |

I also prefer to keep the hoop in the frame. The important thing is that you like them and hopefully the judges will like them also. Sometimes I am amazed that one judge scores my image a 8 or 9 and another a 4 which to means why did I waste his/here time looking at it. I was fortunate to win the PSA gold medal for PJ best of show with one of my rodeo images in September at the Northwest International Exhibition of Photography, plus best of show PSA Gold for large print. Did I see some awards for you in the JCM Circuit? I was also fortunate to win two PSA Golds and several other best of shows in other categories. I know you always do well and have seen several of your images listed as winning awards . Bruce |

Gerry, For me all have good action and you chose the best one for your image. They appear to have a lot of noise on my screen. All of them have some distractions in the bacground such as the guy standing up and the two guys that appear to be sitting in the hoop. For my eye they might be better with the hoop and man were cropped off. Not sure about entering competitions. Bruce |

Isaac, your image captured the amazing action taking place in this croquet match. You captured the amazing agility and flexibility of the lady, the swing of the mallet, the nice colors of the balls and the opponent jumping into action in the background, even the cart ready to transport any injured player. Seriously, your image is about the story and it does really tell a cool story of competition no matter what the game. I really do like it, especially the body position of the women. Sometimes the simplest images tell the best story.

Ronald, you captured an amazing image which makes me marvel at what it must be like to pilot this plane, I do like your processing leaving the dark clouds but enhancing the plane. Bruce |

Barbara, What a great opportunity to get a whole family of four bears all lined up. To my eye the background was a bit bright making it difficult to see the details of the bears. I reduced the exposure of the background and lightened the heads of the bears using photoshop raw filter. Bruce |

Maria, I have to go with Isaac on the crop for this one. The dandelion on the right is so bright that it makes the eye go to it rather than the bee and other two flowers. Also as Isaac pointed out using an odd number such as 3 makes a stronger image. Overall a very nice image with nice colors and interesting subjects. Bruce |

Thanks Mary, I had hoped to get an image of the hipo with mouth wide open but it was not to be. I was happy to get so close though, especially since hippos are one of the most dangerous animals in Africa. Bruce |

Isaac, your patience paid off with a great unusual image. The action, the splashing water, the vegetation, the unusual subjects all add to the interest. Bruce |

Adrian, you are so lucky to be able to travel as much as you do. My theory on getting good images is to just be where the action is and the technical stuff will come with experience. I have also been fortunate to travel a lot for my photography, but age is cramping my opportunities to trave a lot now. Your image makes me want to try some of the fruit it is eating. I know you do not like to make a lot of adjustments to you images that change the reality so I just added a a little light to the eyes to brighten them a bit. Bruce |

Jerry, I agree with Adrian, you have a very nice portrait of the anhinga. I like your crop removing the out of focus chick, it is very sharp, well exposed and lots of feather detail. The background is very nice with not distraction. The has a little catch light, I might suggest trying to add just a bit of saturation to the eye. Bruce |

Hey marge, As noted by the others, this is a good catch of the Osprey with the needle fish. For me the main problem with your image is the light. The sun seems to be quite high and from the side making a shadow under the bird and on the left side of the image. I am sure that we have all had situations like this with great opportunities that do not turn out because of lighting at the moment. Bruce |

Steve, The female RWBB does not get the attention of the make with it's red and black feathers and pretty song, but with good light, the female is also very attractive. I have had the opportunity to photograph them up close with many frames at a local pond where they were nesting. You got a nice sharp image of the bird, however to my eye the bushes in the background draw attention away from the bird especially since they are so bright. Keep in mind that you are the photographer and know what you are trying to show and that my suggestions are only just that. I cropped the image and toned down the bright bushes to try and make the bird stand out. Bruce |

Sunat, I have notice that your photographic style is different from mine, you show more of the environment where I try to get in close showing the details of the animal. My main lens is an 800 mm which gives a close up of the subject with a blurred background. Your style is very nice, telling a story about what the subject is living in. The snake in your image really adds interest. Thanks for sharing your part of the world with it's varied wildlife. Bruce |

Adrian, another nice image from you this month. It was nice for the turkey vulture to fly low for you to get the eye level view. I notice that Isaac had darkened the background a little using ACR just as I had done using the dehaze filter in PS to make the bird stand out from the background. |

Thanks Isaac, Indeed he was looking at me, I was sitting in my car only a few feet away using my 800mm lens. It as colder that heck that day so had the heat on full blast My new neighbor came out of his house to see what this strange guy was sitting in his car with a huge lens pointed at his house. I gave him a print of the robin to prove I was on the level. |
