Hey Tom, Thanks for visiting group 91 Birds and commenting on my image. I live in Washington state just about as far as you can get from Florida in the continental US but still Ft Desoto is one of my favorite places to photograph, especially reddish egrets. Alligator farm is always on my list as well. Florida is a gem for bird photography. I like your image as you posted, it might be just a bit dark, but still is great. Bruce Benson groups 91-72-59 |

Thanks Hans, event though he was dragged around for at least 60 seconds or more he was not injured that I could see. I could have cropped the image even more making it a vertical but I liked having the cowboy hat in the scene. Bruce |

Hey Ronald, I always appreciate you insight into images, You have a lot of knowledge to pass on. I looked back at the original and have to agree with you that it is a good option with the half man cropped out. When preparing this image, I wanted to have a close look of the rider in distress being dragged by the horse. So even though You are correct that the half sign is better, I think I would still chose the cropped version which emphasizes the danger he is in. Bruce |

Gerry, Your choice to shoot from a corner adds to the tension showing the need to lean into the turn by the riders. All of the pink riders left pedals are the top of their stroke, I have to agree with the others that #2 image is stronger without the cones. Bruce |

Kerry, Your image really shows the action of all the riders trying to overtake the leader. Your choice of F3.1 put the leader in focus while making the others out of focus and out of the lead. I like Ronald's suggestion to reduce the shadows on the leaders face. Bruce |

Isaac, A very nice image with the horse in the air, I do not mind the bright colors of Rolex sign, because they seem to add to the importance of the this event. Bruce |

Hey Ronald, I agree with the comments made by Isaac, My only nit is the hand between the wicket appears to be his private part, HA HA Bruce |

Hans, You have captured the essence of the event by showing the red faces, destressed looks, even strained muscles and tendons. It makes the viewer wonder how the event turned out and glad they are not running with them. I do not care for the garbage bins in the background, but it is still a strong image. Bruce |

Hey Barbara, you are certainly right about humans encroaching on the wildlife. The elk in this part of Yellowstone are in charge and pretty much ignore the humans, The rangers there do a pretty good job of keeping the humans a good distance away. I think Adrian is correct that they hang out in Mammoth partly because they are safe from wolves. |

Good point Adrian, I was there in February and saw that there was a wolf kill near the lodge. In the summer there are large groups of cows watched over a dominant bull all over the area, between the buildings and grassy areas. Rangers constantly monitor the area for fools who try to approach them. Not a very healthy environment for either. Bruce |

Barbara, You have a beautiful nature image with the Wapiti (female elk) framed in by the grass. The image appears a bit washed out on my screen and the edit by Isaac really reveals the details of the elk. Well done, Bruce |

Marie, Not sure I can congratulate you on your new Nikon Z8 being a Canon shooter, but am sure you will make it sing. You have a nice image as is, but also like the crop from Isaac putting more emphasis on the bee. Your additional image is really sharp and makes the bee a main part of the story. Bruce |

Isaac I always enjoy seeing the baboons in Africa, they always do something interesting. The pose of Miss Olive is great. I added a little dodging to her eyes to brighten them. On a recent trip to the Nile river in Uganda, my wife was alone on the bus as we waited for the others to disembark from the river boat, when a baboon jumped onto the bus through the drivers window and sat in his seat as thought he was driving. It scared the devil out of my wife. Bruce |

Adrian, I love to photograph in monument valley, My brother worked as an archeologist for the state of Utah many years ago and he knew the history of the Indians very well so enjoyed going there with him. I agree with Isaac and Marie about the brightness. Bruce |

Maria, Wow, what cool image. Nice color, reflection, sharp, good pose, a really nice image. My only advice would be to crop tighter and move the subject out of the center. Bruce |

Thanks for your comments Marge, my camera was actually on the ground making for a nice blurred background, I took it at the Santa Clara Ranch near Edinburg, Texas. |

Cindy, Thanks for your ID of the bird, I am not a birder but love to photograph them. I did try to find a proper ID but dunlin was the closest thing I came up with I agree that the vertical crop since that isolates the bird better, I was indeed taken at Santa Clara ranch near Edinburg Texas so not real close the sandy beach of the coast. |

Hey Cindy, lucky you to visit the Pantanal. Wow a really nice image, sharp, well exposed, nice color and pose, open beak with food in the air. A real wall hanger. Perhaps cropping a small amount of the right side would bring the bird out of a center a bit, and small amount off the bottom would highlight the bird more. Really great image. Bruce |

Hey Marge, You had great timing with this image, Your settings should be just fine with F10 giving depth of field and 1/2000 plenty of speed to freeze the bird. As I see it the main problem is I can not find a focus point, not an easy task with a flying bird. There is not much you can to make it sharp if the image itself is soft. If you zoom in you can see that the Kite is very soft so no details are there, The small bird is also out of focus. The only way to avoid this is to make sure the focus point is on the kite when you push the shutter button. I use the back button to set focus which is great for bird photography. Google it if you are not aware of what it is. You might also try different focus point patterns that are available . Some have a wider area of focus and some have a more narrow area Not sure if this helps, but all of us have come home with what we thought were great images only to find out we missed the focus . Adrian, You are so lucky to visit so many world class places and document your travels with your images. Your crop from the original image is just right putting the focus on the subjects. The exposure of black and white birds is right on, not an easy task and the image is tack sharp. Bruce |

Sanat, nice image of the short eared owl, one of my favorite birds to photograph. It is amazing how bird species are found around the world. They are a fairly common bird here in Washington State. You included some interesting facts about the area , it sounds like a wonderful place to photograph. I like how the owls ears are up and it is looking directly at you. A lower shooting angle might blur some of the background and foreground however seeing the environment is also interesting. Well done, Bruce |

Jerry, I like your blurred background and the way you got the bird singing with it's beak open. Colors on the bird are nice as well. Pretty easy to get images outside your house. I have to admit I have perches and feeders in my backyard with many nice images taken there. Bruce |
