Hey Kathy, Bruce from group 91 Birds, Isaac did a nice job of increasing the exposure a bit helping to bring out the details in the darker areas.. There is a great new tool in photoshop under the spot healing brush tool called "Remove" all you have to do is highlite the area you want to clone or remove click the checkmark and magic the unwanted area is just gone replaced with similar pixels from near the area being removed. It really is magic. Bruce |

Kerry, I also like the black and white version best Your crop eliminating the group on the right helps improve the image. Congrats to the Socceroos win in the World Cup. I was fortunate to have credentials to photograph the Womens World Cup when it was held in Canada for a Swedish magazine. Bruce |

Thanks Don, The light was special that night and just happened to light up the two players this way. I did not do anything abnormal other than push Auto in camera raw. Bruce |

Gerry, Your image tells a nice story and would make a great human interest image for competition. Not sure I would take my child on this ride, but assume the man knows what he is doing. Bruce |

Barbara, Flamingos always make a great subject but as you say are difficult to capture just one in an image. You did a good job of eliminating the one in the background and caught an interesting pose. I agree with Isaac the the original exposure and color are better. Bruce |

Maria, I remember when I say my first Mantis in Alabama and thought I had discovered a new species. Growing up in Idaho we did not have them so was really excited. As Isaac said it is very sharp with a nice blurred background. I always look forward to your posts, they are always great quality. Bruce |

As Mary said you got the right moment, not only with the paw in the air, but also looking straight at you. Great image. It might be my screen, but I see a slight blue cast. Bruce |

Isaac, I have several very similar images from the Alligator Farm and agree that it is an incredible place for photography. It is hard to get the area from nose to eyes in sharp focus, especially with a zoom lens. The alligators backs are quite reflective so difficult to expose. The important teeth are sharp and really make the image for me. I might crop a bit off the top and left of the frame. Bruce |

Hey Marie, Your crop is good and I like your treatment of the water. It is hard to resist baby ducks especially when they are lined up and following the mom. |

Marge, Really nice image of the heron with and interesting sky for the background. There is a small area just above the left leg of the bird where the shadows are completely blocked out with no details that might be slightly recovered with the shadows and black sliders in camera raw. Still a nice image from and interesting view. Bruce |

Cindy, you do indeed have a sharp eye spotting the white spot at the bottom. I did not see it or the line on the add canvas image from Jerry. With your help, it is really obvious. Your comments are always spot on. Bruce |

Isaac, good point so many things to remember. I do not use the increase canvas action very often, but it can save a nice image when necessary. Bruce |

Adrian, There is a great place for Osprey photography in Florida called Blue Cypress Lake. You can charter a pontoon boat to take you out on the lake. There are around 50 osprey pairs along a 2 mile stretch of the shore. The cypress trees have be broken down by several hurricanes over the years so the nests are very low and you can photograph the ospreys bringing in fish to the chicks. Many of the top photographers conduct workshops there. The pontoon boats allow you to set up your tripod making it easier to get sharp images and not have to handhold you camera. I have attached an image of what it looks like there. |

Jerry, A nice portrait of an interesting bird. You captured some nice detail You did a good job removing the distracting bird in the background. Cindy has a good eye spotting the line from adding canvas but was needed to add room for the beak. Bruce |

Thanks Isaac, here is the metadata, I did include it in my e-mail to Jerry, but for some reason it did not get included in the post. Santa Clara and Lagoona Seca Ranches are incredible places for bird photography. I have visited them twice and even had the opportunity to photograph a beautiful bobcat for almost 20 minutes as it got a drink about 10 feet away. The whole afternoon there were no birds so we were really disappointed to waste the expensive time, but our guide Hector Astorga concluded that it had been asleep in the bushes near us all afternoon came for a drink right during the golden light. I took about 2000 frames. Bruce

Thanks Jerry, I am with you on the difficulty to get small birds in flight, especially getting them in focus. I was determined to get at least one good image this day so dedicated the whole afternoon to this goal, ignoring all other opportunities. This really paid off not only for the Pyrrhuloxia but several other species.. |

Thanks Cindy, I appreciate your input. I used my Canon 1DX MKII Canon camera and Canon 400 2.8 prime lens. I did pre focus on the perch and used a wired shutter release so did not have to look through the viewfinder. I was shooting at 16 frames per second so had many images to choose from. I did not try to get any other scenes for the whole afternoon. Bruce |

Hellos Sanat, I am looking forward to seeing many of your images and sharing some of mine with you. My son is a global immigration attorney and he visited Kerala for his work. I was going to go with him but a medical issue made me back out. I would love to visit some time. You have shared a very nice image with interaction between the two birds. Your exposure is good especially with both white and dark parts of the birds which is similar to photographing bald eagles here in the USA. On my screen there is a slight blue cast in the whites and a slight red cast on the darks. I opened the image in photoshop and dropped the saturation a bit then adjusted the tint of red and blue. Not sure if that helped but on my screen they do look a little more natural. Overall and very nice image. Bruce |

Hey Cindy, I also enjoy photographing snowy egrets. I have thousands of images of them. You image is nice and sharp with a fine subject doing what they do. The large fish adds interest as well. On my screen the bird appears to be floating in the black background and the tail is lacking any detail in the shadows. I Opened it in Adobe camera raw, selecting the background and opening up the shadows just a bit to reveal some detail. I also selected the bird and adjusted the shadows up a bit on the tail. These adjustments also seemed to reveal some of the details in the fine feathers around the edge of the bird. I hope you do not mind the suggestions, Bruce |
