Thank you Hans, It was very hot this day making for plenty of dust but was hard on the equipment. I hope to get to Germany soon to visit my son Hans in Frankfurt. Would like to meet up if possible. Bruce |

Thanks Isaac, yes I feel lucky to get in the front of the crowd, I always make sure I am not blocking anyone's vision and ask about it. It also helps to be able to move around and get the action coming directly at me. I have gained a real respect for the cowboys/girls and also the horses and cows. This day was really hot making the ground dry and dusty which added to the drama. My car thermometer registered at 120 degrees so was exhausting. I will be attending the rodeo again in September. Isaac, Really nice image especially with the low perspective, great action and detail. The little patch of dirt in the left corner adds to the feeling of action. Well done, Bruce |

I agree with you, the handcycles are very interesting and worth overlooking some issues with background. That was my initial reaction as well. Bruce |

Gerry, Congrats on your four acceptances. You have shown another nice cycling image with good action showing the effort in the riders faces. The white structures in the background are a little distracting, but don't think enough to cause a problem for the judges in a competition. Bruce |

Hey Kerry, thanks for sharing you image of this interesting sport. You captured a nice scene that is sharp with good action. I really like how you can see the details of the horses. Your exposure is good especially with the apparent harsh light. I tried a closer crop to eliminate the rider on the right but not being able to clone out the car in the background really detracts. Overall though a nice image, thanks for sharing it. Bruce |

Ronald, I am glad that my image inspired you to post this image. Indeed there are a lot of eyes on the ball It makes for a very interesting scene. It is to bad that cloning is not allowed for this division, it would be great to take out the person climbing the hill and the yellow stick coming out the back end of the guy on the left. I had a similar problem with a nature image of a stick coming out of the rear of an elk. I do like the long narrow crop since it keeps you focused on the action. Bruce |

Hans, your HM award is well deserved. You really nailed the slow shutter speed and panning with good sharpness of the runners. Your narrow crop eliminates anything distracting. Well done. Bruce |

Marie, not long ago we woke up to seven of these guys at our bird feeders, you can not believe the mess they made. I am sure the mom was taking them out on an exploratory expedition. We have also noticed that they have been absent for a while. Bruce |

Marie, Sorry for the late comment, I looked at your image at the beginning of the post and thought I had made my comments. I also have a few dozen of them that I would be happy to send you. They make a real mess with my bird feeders. That is quite a crop and you still got good details. The color is nice. The behavior is interesting although I would like to see the eyes of the second one.

Barbara, anytime you get the opportunity to have wildlife this close is awesome. I especially like the way the image shows the details of the mud nest. Bruce |

Thanks Maria, You will see that I really enjoy photographing birds, especially owls. I am anxious to see more of your images. I have been involved in football for many years and brought several teams to San Sebastian to compete in the Donesti International Football cup. and loved my time there. I am a Barcelona fan, hope that does not put me in trouble. |

Thanks Barbara, I agree that it would be a stronger image if the eyes were more visible. I do have images from this shoot with the eyes visible, but wanted to see what others think about this one. The one with the eyes won the Best of Animals award at the Northwest International Exhibition of Photography last year. Bruce |

Thanks Isaac, I do have a frame of the owl looking right at me, which did win a PSA best of animals award. This owl gave me many opportunities before it crossed the main road in Yellowstone and was discovered by busloads of tourists that flocked into the meadow it was hunting in which restricted it's ability to hunt and ruined the scene. Hey Adrian, a beautiful scene again as in last months image. It is very difficult to show the true scale and beauty of these scenes for instance the grand canyon in the US. For me I like the composition of the original 1. The top of the mountains is not so close to the frame edge. I also like that it shows more of the lake and how it comes to a point at the bottom of the frame. The panorama version does show the vastness of the mountains though so it is really a toss up for me. You are lucky to be able to see so many awesome places. Well done. Bruce

Hey Maria, Again welcome to group 72. As you will see, one of my favorite subjects is birds but have many other favorites such as bears foxes and more. Your first post is wonderful showing that you have a creative side to your images. The I love the clear blurred background and the action of the swallow. The wing position is very nice and the open beak also adds to the image. Really well done.

Isaac, Turkeys are not what you normally expect to shoot at Bosque, but a nice bonus for sure. I have photographed Mt. bluebirds there for my bonus. Seeing a blast of the "white canadian geese" is worth the trip to New Mexico, although we have around 40,000 of them spend the winter in the Skagit Valley here in Washington State so get to see them often. Hey Mary, What a great experience it must be to be underwater and see the other world that exists there. My ears do not allow me to be under water so will never experience this. I tried to eliminate some of the negative space at the top of the image and still include the interesting tubes. Just a thought. Bruce |
