2 Apr 24 Comment Based on Martin and Terri's comments on the background texture and bright spots on the bird I have done some more edits which I think are improvements. Apr 30th
2 Apr 24 Comment Thanks; I will work on it. Piers Apr 8th
2 Apr 24 Reply Thanks for your suggestion. The bird is partly backlit so I think your comment could apply more to the colored image. I did increase exposure in black and white in line with my attempt to go high key. Apr 6th
2 Apr 24 Comment Inspirational! - possibly because of the soaring black bird. Impressive composition! - which I attribute to your unique angle of view resulting in diagonals. Since it is leaning towards the abstract I think you could increase contrast. Also I wonder if you had considered black and white. If you do I would select a brighter sky and increased blacks and whites to the Lightroom thresholds (alt key). Apr 6th
2 Apr 24 Comment A mentor at the club recently said "it's all about the eye". Catchlight with great expression, and the tong being out makes the point, and jives with the title. I would take out about half an inch below and use a gradient tool to reduce exposure in the lower quarter slightly and same but less for the left of the image. That would leave the bat with more direction towards the light on the right. Apr 4th
2 Apr 24 Comment Not bad considering!!! You have done well with some almost parallel lines for the arms, legs, floor-boards and shoe heel. The background is problematic especially around the hat so I would mask, blur and darken or brighten, or change it.
Black and white conversion is a good idea but I would try increasing the black and white points for effect but leave the background.

2 Apr 24 Comment Very interesting story, image and post-processing to attain a subtle effect. I agree with Jim about the panorama idea but would not go as strong with saturation because it risks conflicting with the fog effect. However, it does seem the right way to go to bring out the fascinating line of houses and their reflection in the water. Apr 4th
2 Apr 24 Comment Great silhouetted image with plenty of story and great timing for almost symmetrical side-glancing. The brightening of the background helps the effect but I think the crop has somewhat cancelled some of the story - I would give the parents some more space at the sides. At 600mm the image tends to flatten so I would paint in some underexposed patches on the right and low down and maybe vignette slightly. The red crowns could possibly be shown slightly more? Apr 4th
2 Apr 24 Comment Thanks. I like your image. It seems that the term high key is a relative concept and goes back to when less post-processing was available. I have read that you need to select a subject with a bright background and increase exposure for the subject up to 4 stops. I am working on it because it's an item in a local scavenger hunt which dictates no cropping and no post-processing - so all "in camera" shots. Apr 4th
