I'm not an expert but there appears to be some blur in the tree - ? wind or focus, so I meant going from f/2.8 to about f/8 giving you more depth of field. |

The bird is acutely disappointed because its fish was stolen, but I agree the thief is not well shown. I was using the mechanical burst mode at 12 fps but should use electronic at 20 fps. I have the next frame which has better story (attached) but the thief is somewhat contorted although the fish is shown. |

Interesting discussion. I think the negative space on the right is improved. Also I like Jim's idea to clone and move the bud to give it independence. |

I agree that you have made the best choices including to go black and white to bring out the character and interesting hands. However, I find original 2 and 3 to be very interesting. Original 3 looks to me to be worth exploring for cropping and possible conversion to black and white? |

Your settings appear to be optimal for the best capture of the layers of dahlia petals. The background shapes with nice bokeh add interest; but I think you could do something with the upper right bright spot.....? darken or clone it out and darken the bud to the left of the flower since it is overlapping and conflicting with your main flower. |

I am struck by the overlapping circles as the main compositional element. It is so strong that it does well with the original sky making your first image just as good I think. The orange seems to compliment the different blues perhaps giving the second image an edge. |

The silhouetted horizon and sunset clouds make a great combination with the stars. Thanks for the exposure lesson - but I wonder if you could have stopped down to improve the tree? Did you identify any constellations? |

You are correct. I failed to get the fish in the second shot.
It's possible the image with the fish is stronger and that I should discard the image of the disappointed heron. I do have more shots in the sequence but none with the fish. |
