Yes, it has a cooling effect. Perhaps the clouds are too bright taking away attention. |

Thanks. That's sort of what I did in response to Jim, but he wants me to move the sky a bit! No I was not holding French fries!! Just a camera and a monopod I think. For me it is rare to get so close to the bird, but it was the wind direction blowing at the bird. |

I agree on the merits of cropping. However, I think the gray (American English) horse's left leg is held in such an expressive pose, and I think it would be a pity to take it out. |

Thanks for some vivid comments and ideas. I have done some edits which probably DQs me from Nature competition because of changing the environment. That is a sky replace and then use of a brush to de-shadow around the legs and the color mixer to increase the yellows. It now has a different meaning with perhaps less drama. I could also redo the crop. |

I looked at your original and instantly thought there was missing story, and that possibly your framing was right on in the first place. I think less cropping gives more feeling to the image and I like the Sunglass Hut sign and its mirror image on the upper right side; and the business of the mall in the background provides ambience. But extra exposure adjustment would be required. |

Welcome!! Congrats on a great image. My disclosure is that I grew up on a farm and like horses; however despite some bias this is a superior image. I don't think it lacks sharpness and your depth of field is right on. I think you would enjoy both Lightroom and Photoshop (now available for $10/month with updates - see Shirley's note). I took the image into Photoshop's camera raw filter (similar to Lightroom) and found the gray horse's face to be right on the 1/3 line, however some foreground and maybe some of the background could be cropped out leaving the gray horses eyes at the 1/3 line and the spot on the right removed, and perhaps some exposure adjustment with a mask. However, it's much better to do this with the original and with your own preferences for this wonderful image. |

Interesting that you caught them all in the air, but in my opinion the compositional elements are superior. The one third line at the horse's eye is giving space to move into while maintaining the nice triple of tents. Also the rail is serving as a directional line. Nice handling in post but might consider a sky replacement possibly with bland clouds to match the tents. |

Congrats on a great capture and post-processing. There is more than one contributing compositional element: a nice curved path of snow to the peak with a foreground ridge, midground peak and receding background. The diagonals and triangles add to effect. I agree with suitability for monochrome, and that there is scope for more contrast. |

Yes, the image shown is correct. If I showed the original my choice would be to change the background. |
