Hi Brenda! Although a relative novice I have the following further thoughts probably based on BIF or birds in flight attempts. It seems that sharpness is a fundamental challenge and common to most of the genres. I find that tweaking slightly with the clarify and dehaze sliders on the PSD or TIFF image helps, but can increase noise. The other issue is photographic technique which is also sensor and lens dependent. I am tending towards primes but high-end zooms with low f numbers ("fast lenses") help the sensor and automatic focusing by letting in more light. Pixel density may not help if the lens lacks resolving power; this is becoming a new problem since top cameras have pushed up the megapixel counts (just discovered this with a new Canon!, hence the search for good lenses). The other thing is tracking the image before shooting while latching on to the image helps the camera get closer to the focal point so that it focuses faster, preferably with a burst mode. In this case it would have been the ball or player's head or eyes. Eyes being open are higher scoring points, although he looks like he is being bonked on the head! He looks somewhat like my red-headed nephew who plays soccer in England. Piers |

However, possibly retaining the one thirds rule is better! |

Thanks very much Martin for your effective edits and suggestions. I think your idea to give the image more sky is good although departing from the one third rule or recommendation. I brought in more sky with content aware and some cloning, as well as cutting out some water as you suggested. I also cropped in from the right slightly. |

Great image and story. I think the Peppercorn tree adds interest and it looks like it has been there perhaps even longer than the hotel, so I would not crop so tightly. Also I would leave more of the wisp of cloud pointing upwards. Less cropping would also leave the impression of the wide open outback, but on looking at the original I can see this is difficult to do while maintaining perspective, but if you loose image borders on the vertical transform I suggest try to add back with content aware while maintaining the whole tree. |

I like the image with and without the story. Looks like a good game...would probably loose a point for sharpness, but have just come back from a ruthless club meeting. |

A perfect crop and rendition of a beautiful girl. The slightly shaded face fits with what the parasol is supposed to do, so I would not change it. |

Great image. Like the last one, you can feel the passion and hear the sound! The musician with his bright striped jacket leads into the lights and appears as if the sound is going that way in an upwards direction. |

I like the first image somehow but can't explain why. I like the fence and like it as being the main topic with nice background layers receding to the sky. Then the title becomes the "Cotton-field Fence". |

Thanks for the comments. Here is a revised image with an increase to 5 fishermen. The horizon is strait at the waterline |
