Really nice image. Changing to a portrait from landscape frames the bird and its reflection well. This is an excellent Nature shot: head and eye sharp. Tail being out of the DOF is not an issue as it is not where the viewer's eye is to be. |

Adrian, I agree but I don't think this is a Lightroom issue. I tried to darken the water, reduce contrast and selectively reduce the shadows on the animals - making some difference but little real improvement. Next time I am in this situation I will definitely use a polarizer. |

Walt, Really good point about the fill flash. Purchased one years ago for this purpose (range of 20 yds) but rarely think to use it, let alone bring it with me on a nature shoot. |

Mary, thanks for taking a stab at it with your tool set (I am only using Lightroom). You certainly improved it but as Isaac notes, hard to turn bad light into good light. |

Bruce, I agree with you about the light. This location is at entrance to a coastal slough. The fog had cleared to the wet (behind me) but was still present a few hundred yards to the East. I looked at other photos from the morning and all seemed to suffer from this harsh light. |
