Some of the phone apps are quite fun to use and to me, add to the creativity possibilities. They sometimes help me see an image in a totally different way. |

Thanks Joan! To turn the background black, I selected the subject, selected Inverse. and used the Levels adjustment. I ended up recreating a few small sections but I was very surprised that Levels worked so well. Continuing to learn Photoshop bit by bit.... Not at all easy for me... |

Hank, I think it is interesting that you see the sapling as a "hopeless struggle" and I see it as a "tenacious little character" beating all odds.
As far as dodging the streak, it is more way of allowing the eye to not be distracted by the brightness and focus on the tree rather than "technical" accuracy (my opinion only). |

Mohanan, great story! I agree with Hank suggested crop. It really gets to the heart of your title but at the same time, I think your processing (with its slightly over saturation) makes this image come to life. I feel like I am there as on onlooker as this vendor sells her wares. Great story! |

Joan, what a GREAT image! Colors, composition, textures, it has it all. I am wondering if you had considered editing it with some of the fun iPhone editing app. This one is SuperPhoto - Painting. GREAT AS IT IS....but fun to play with. |

Bogdan, how exciting to capture the sisters together! Their pose gives us a hint to their personalities. For me, I feel that the hight of the nest in the original adds interest to the image. I am also wondering if you might be able to get more details in the back portion of the wings using the Dodge tool. |

Walter, WOW...you captured this one just right. The detail in the feathers and the angle all work together to make this an outstanding image. The face and head are quite unique to me. Capturing both eyes and the way his head sits of his neck adds interest to the image. Can you tell us what specie of pelican this is? |

Welcome to the Group 16, Hank! I can see why this location is well worth the hike. Framing the sapling is a wonderful way of telling this story. The open sky at the top and bottom add to the wonders you have captured here. My suggestion for improving this image is to use the Dodge tool in Photoshop on some of the shadows to give us a chance to see more of the magnificent colors and layers that are hidden. I would also like to suggest a slightly different crop that still gives. you a sense of the hight but removes a bit of the very bright area on the left side of the image. I also took the liberty of increasing the saturation a bit. |
