What in incredibly great capture! This bird so clear and crisp, you can almost count the feathers. I am wondering if cropping a bit more (almost to a square image) would make it even more powerful. I also feel that to line of the background on the right should be softer (more like you have made it on the left). Thanks for sharing. |

Thank all of you for your suggestions. I was considering a vignette but after my disastrous vignette from last month's image, I decided to leave it out. After your comments, I did attempt a slight vignette and it did improve the image. Thanks! |

Walter, I agree, the power of the image is in the bird's wings. They are clear and sharp filled with details that can only be captured from this angle. What I am unsure of is blue sky and whether or not it helps or hinders your story about the wings. I am wondering what this image would look like in either black and white or sepia. |

Joan, I think you handled this image spot on. What a great way to show both patterns and shadows while also giving us a sense of the massive size of the building and totem polls. To me, making the image into a vertical took it from an everyday travel photo to an image worth framing. Thanks for sharing. |

Dr. Nair, I feel that this image has great potential which may have been lost in your editing. To me, the power of the original image is in the strong rich black silhouetting. This power seems to have been lost with the use of the levels tool. I tried a slightly different approach by using the lasso tool to isolate everything that was not to be silhouetted and then adjusting the brightness and colors once these areas were chosen. (I am NOT the expert on the lasso tool so please forgive my inability to erase areas captured by my unsteady hand. For the life of me, I could not figure out how to erase and correct my errors.) |
