99 Jul 24 Comment Gary, you did well to capture this and your cropping has improved the composition of the picture. I think Barbara's treatment also helps draw more attention to the bird. I do not mind the dark cactus on the right although Robin's suggestion is also a good one. It's amazing how this bird can do the without getting impaled! Jul 8th
99 Jul 24 Comment Kathleen, I do like your images of places like this and the way you create a story using a mixture of man made things and the way we interact with them. The other people apart this shot of probably a father and his son on a day out is a charming image. I too would crop out the waste bin on the right. I'd leave the people on the far left in but if you wanted to you could use the Photoshop Remove tool to take out the people in the far distance who do not really add anything to the image. The sepia effect once again helps give a yesteryear feel to the image. Jul 8th
99 Jul 24 Comment John, I agree with Barbara and Robin about the need for a tighter crop here. I'd pull it in to lose the foliage at the top as there is that interesting feature of the railings above the door. The sepia tone works well with this subject and I also like the framing you have added. Jul 8th
99 Jul 24 Comment Robin, first of all - a great title for this shot. This car is certainly not going anywhere! This subject lends itself very well to mono as it seems to add to the passing of time. I expect in a few years time this shot will be impossible as the car will be completely overgrown. Good detail and texture in this shot. Jul 8th
99 Jul 24 Comment Barbara this is a really fun image even more so because you describe Maverick as your 'dog nephew', a relationship which is quite difficult to work out but I'm sure it is a happy one! This works well in mono and you have captured his energy well. The angle helps that and the blur on his front legs gives the image its sense of movement. There is a glint in his eye too which adds to the whole image.
