Thank you Linda - Yes the coats do look that way! It was a chance shot and I didn't read so much into at the time. But now it has taken on a life of its own!

Gary, welcome to the group. It will be good to have another member's images to view each month.
This is a bold dramatic image which works well in mono. You have done a good job in cropping the people out of the picture. The image then contains loads of textured swirls and becomes almost a pattern picture without a regular pattern, if you know what I mean. When you realise that you have to know where you want the viewer to look. For me it would be the 'snake-head' type protrusion almost top right which is the most 'realistic' part of the image. Almost like a creature within the tree. So my suggestion would be to make that more a feature of this image and to do that I would make an even bolder crop in from the left which would also remove almost all of the sky from the top left - bring the crop in from the left up to just the beginning of the big branch that goes uo top middle, That way the focus on that 'creature' would be more prominent and at the same time would remove some of the highlights top left. I'd also try to remove some of the burnout on the far right edge of the image either by slight burning in or by cloning in some of the grass and debris. |

Kathleen, many thanks. I hadn't seen it that way but now you have pointed it out, it's how I will always see it from now on! I guess with the hands stuffed in the pockets of the hanging jacket that that coat has been waiting some time! |

Kathleen, this vegetable comes over to me as appearing like flowing hair from a sculpture. I like th folds in this and the leading line from the bottom left. But I think the depth of field goes off when you reach that point top right. But maybe the image doesn't have to be totally sharp - I guess it's a matter of taste, which as it's an edible vegetable is probably appropriate. Sorry, poor joke! |

John, this an interesting mono conversion. I think as it is, it needs a little more punch as it comes over slightly flat even though you have increased the contrast. I think it's because the blacks are not black enough. I also think you could lose some of the space above his head and also remove the slight halo effect around him. I would also lose the white objects on the right which draw the eye. |

Linda, this is a very interesting and somewhat supernatural image! I began thinking of the story of the Marie Celeste and then the Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner and both combined to make me think these birds really had taken over the ship and were in it for the long haul. I think there is a little too much sky and too much water on the left. It's a shame that there isn't a bird on the top of the cabin to act as a captain of their vessel but maybe you could try that by copying and pasting one in from the bow of the boat. Tiffany Marie looks as though it's seen better days! |

Gerard, yes I see where you are going with this image. Rendered mono, the tree could almost get up and walk! I like the off centre position and don't mind the halo as this adds to the feel of the image. This certainly works better in ono than in colour fr me. |

Barbara, this is a powerful image. The leading line up from the bottom left to the tip of the foremost leaf provides direction for the viewer. For something quite delicate this makes the leaf strong and purposeful. But at the same time your treatment still continues to show the flower's delicacy in the folds of the leaves. Good exposure and lighting too. I really like it. |
