Linda, this is my sort of shot! Great attitude shown here. I like the way you have cropped the finished shot and removed several of the distractions beneath the handlebars of her device. This works very well in mono too and brings out the character in her face. The only issue, if it really is one, is the stuff in her glasses. You could edit them out but maybe that would look false. |

Kathleen, I think this is a great shot and well cropped. Whilst some might say an even number don't work as well as an uneven one, in this case I think it works better. Here you have a variety of expressions ranging from the guy on the left who looks depressingly cold, moving up the line to the couple engaged in talking about the beers they will share later to the final three of all-out surfer pros sandwiching the guy with his head down who looks as though he would be happier somewhere else!
I also like the face that the treatment you have given it has not made their wetsuits too black. Yes, I did enjoy it! |

Michael, this is an unusual image. A good shot in them pouring rain which is there to see in the photograph and maybe why you chose such a high ISO for it?
I'm not certain whet I am looking at right in the centre of the image. It almost looks like a ball-shaped object suspended in the middle of the structure or is it the far end of that structure with the word 'END' written on it? I like the contrast in this image and think it might work well as a print. |

Gerard, there is a saying over here and maybe your way too that 'it is what it says on the tin'. Meaning of course in this case 'a mallet is a mallet'. So what we have here is just that but as you say the arrangement is interesting and pleasing. This is an object ready for use or which has been used. The lighting is helpful for bringing out the texture of the wood but I also feel that the highlights on the top of the mallet in particular is a little harsh and could be toned down somewhat. And, at the same time the engraving on the handle could be lightened a little to make it clearer. |

Barbara, well this is weird! But in a great way. One of the questions a photo judge always asks, so I am told is - why do you think the photographer took this shot? So I have to ask, politely I hope, 'how many had you had before this was taken or thought about?!' Were you trying to reflect an unsure state of being or were you seeing double for another reason? Whatever, it was I like the result especially the sepia finish and the retro border. Certainly a fun image but technically also very good. |
