Hi Glenn, thanks for submitting an image of one of the few birds I can easily identify! I really enjoyed this shot. It is, as you say very sharp and the birds' colours are very well caught and look realistic. Snake River is an unusual colour but I guess that's the sediment in it. I think however, that the background is a little obtrusive. It should be possible to isolate the birds and blur the river somewhat to throw the birds more to the front of the image. |

Sheldon, your original image works far better for me than that submitted by Stuart. Yours has far more drama and impact. You have some good leading lines here but might crop it slightly on the left. |

Joe, this is a well-titled image. He certainly was going to get a drenching even though the water also looks like a big ball of feathers! Great that he liked the image - that's all what matters. |

Randy, this is a powerful image, sadly replicated around the world and damning judgement on the human species. The shadow cast by the flowers says it all. You might consider a vignette to bring the focus more on the flowers and their shadow or a crop from the top. You might also try to bring out a little more detail in the flowers, in particular the one on the right. |

Michael, there are some interesting suggestions made here already for your image. But for me, I like what you have done without alteration. I like the warm tone you have given it. I would only suggest a small crop off the right up to where the last of the trees on the horizon. |

Linda, this is a powerful image with plenty of impact. Good detail brought out in the barn and the image flip was an excellent decision. I'm not totally sure if you have changed the sky but even if you have the original would work well. I agree that you have maybe over darkened the clouds to the left and the burnt out area to the right of the barn needs some adjustment. For me, the position of the tractor also adds to the success of this image. |

Gerard, when I first saw this I thought you had photographed a new species of bat - such is the 'pose' of the hanging flowers! Whether this works as well in mono, I am not so sure. I do not think the mono adds anything to the flowers photographically on this occasion - sorry. As for whether to have three or five flowers would look better, I lean towards the three because of the the overlap of the flowers far left.

Barbara, this is a 'solid' piece of work! By that I mean you have rendered these flowers into almost metallic objects but still with a beauty of their own. I like the composition and the textured background but agree that there needs to be a little more room around them. I am not over keen on the unusual borders as I cannot see what this adds to the image. But overall a very satisfying image. |

Michael, many thanks for your comments - and for your interpretation. I think maybe that the reason the face looks somewhat 'dirty' in the mono but not in the original is because I worked on the colour before converting to mono. So I had used some burning techniques on the face so that may be the reason. I will have a look at using the gradient filters as they seem to add drama to the image.

Linda, thanks for your comments on my image. I appreciate what you have done to it and will have a look at replicating it myself. I have been trying to improve on my portraits by taking care with post processing but am frequently uncertain of how far to take it! Did you use the new tools in Photoshop Raw filter to enhance the eyes? I'm gradually learning some new enhancing skills but have some way to go! |
