25 Oct 18 Reply Thanks, Darin. I'll give that crop a try! Oct 28th
25 Oct 18 Reply Thanks for the feedback, Eric! I agree that I'm not too happy about the cup and toothbrush. I'm trying to stay true to docu-photography, so cloning is a no-no. That being said, I might have been able to move to the right a bit more to cover the cup with my son's head. Oct 28th
25 Oct 18 Reply Hi Ruth - yep, the bevel sure does that. I struggled to find a good angle on this one while minimizing the effect of the bezel. Oct 28th
25 Oct 18 Reply Thanks for the edits, Audrey. I really like the perspective change you made to this - that is amazing. Almost makes it look like I was right behind him (which I obviously can't be or you'd see me in the mirror). As for the towels, looking at the two, I think I prefer them in there. Provides balance to the image, especially since you can see them in the mirror.

Back to the perspective change - I'm trying to stick to documentary photography 'rules' where the only editing that is done is very basic toning/shading/cropping. Any other edits is taboo in that genre.

25 Oct 18 Reply I was definitely fun taking a day off of work to do something I enjoy, plus capture images of my mother taking care of them. It's something I hope the kids will treasure one day. This was a tough angle to get, trying to stay out of view of the mirror while getting his expression and just enough of my mom to show her interaction with him. Plus, I was on my tippy-toes trying to get this...if I only had a stool (smile). Oct 28th
25 Oct 18 Comment I too enjoy the warm colors. I would not have guessed it was light painted. My only nit-pick is that I want to rotate it just a hair, like 1-2 degrees (right side up). It looks off kilter to my eyes. Oct 28th
25 Oct 18 Comment I don't have much to add than what the others have already written. Agree that this kind of image is quite difficult, and you did a nice job with it given the difficultly. The only part that bothers me is the grainy sky. I wonder is some heavy post-processing in PS to make it pure black (or close to it, but keeping it look realistic) might help. Oct 28th
25 Oct 18 Comment Agree with the others that the expression is great. After that, I do feel a bit confused by the lighting as well. There isn't usually much you can do about that when grabbing a moment, of course. I also agree with Eric that moving slightly left....IMO, I would have liked to see this taken much more to the left so we can see closer to the end of the brush. The use of DoF with focus on the child is spot on. If you were able to share this with the parents, I'm sure they would love it! Oct 28th
25 Oct 18 Comment The color of those flowers is amazing. I am a bit troubled by what looks to be too much post-processing and I feel opposite Audrey about the shadows...I feel they are too harsh. The composition is well done, IMO. I like that we see one flower straight on while getting a profile of the other. Oct 28th
25 Oct 18 Comment Same here - I wouldn't change a thing! Of course, the colors are great, but you also did a fantastic job with composition. IMO< the choice to include a bit of the pot helps the image...adds just a hint of interest and placement. It also helps to keep the center of the leaf cluster at the 1/3 location from the top. Nice image, Audrey! Oct 28th

25 Oct 18 Comment Was this on a tri-pod? If not, then nice job hand-holding at the shutter speed. The composition is well done, especially how you singled out one bracelet amongst the masses. Similar to Marla's comment, I'm not sure what the story is without the description. I also think that more DoF to show more detail in the background pile would have helped. It's really hard to tell what that is. Oct 24th
