This is a nice image and the composition is well done. I would have never guessed that you added the fireworks later. The exposure is well done - it can be quite difficult to get the lighting right in that kind of setting. Looking at the shadows and catch lights, it looks like you used on camera flash and may have had some helper light (maybe from a lamp-post). I've been studying off camera lighting a lot lately and if I had to pick one thing, it would be to do what you can to get that flash off camera (unfortunately, that does mean extra gear to carry around, which may not fit the situation). The flat lighting makes them look a bit dimensionless. That being said, you get what you can with what you've got and this is a nice image for sure! |

Agree with the others that the crop is good. You have captured a good connection with the subject too. IMO, the image is a little too orange/warm. I toned it down a bit in my VF as well as added some contract using the tone curve to give a bit more edginess, given the edginess of the subject. |

I agree with Eric's suggested edits. I think they help keep the focus on the fungus. You have a good eye - the composition of them on the branch is definitely pleasing. |

Thanks, Ruth! After everyone's feedback about wanting to see more of grandpa, I was reminded why I cut out of most of him...I got him in a blink so his eyes are closed, which makes it very distracting. So....crop the eyes, problem solved. =) |
