25 Mar 18 Comment Hello all - thank you for the responses and feedback. And thank you for the crop suggestion, Audrey. It seems you all would like to learn more, so here's the link: https://digital-photography-school.com/create-colorful-artistic-images-using-oil-water/

This is a fun and simply project, but also goes to show how something that seems so simple still takes work to get truly good images..I'm far from there as you'll see when you view the article. Also, one of my issues was trying to find a container that didn't have writing on the bottom. If you look closely center bottom, you'll see some text that I missed when cloning out. Everything in my kitchen has "Pyrex" and other text on the bottom. However, I just ordered a cheap set from Amazon where people claim it is clear and without writing. Double-duty...extra baking dishes for the kitchen and a toy for my photography! Hopefully it will arrive in time to get more for next month's submission.

25 Mar 18 Comment Great image, detail, and composition! I think you did a great job with the post-processing in this one. I especially like how you captured the pin-points of snow by using the high shutter speed. I don't have any points that I feel would strengthen the image, except for one, which is out of your control - I just wish the coyote was looking in the direction of the camera so we could see more of the face/eye. 25 Mar 18 Comment Agree with Vincent that the subjects definitely jump off the image. The lighting is beautiful, showing the 3-D form of the geese and a catch light in the eye of the one looking forward. Detail and composition are done well. There is some merging of the legs between the two geese as I'm not quite sure who has which leg. Too bad you couldn't get one with the in the back goose to looks towards/at the camera. Mar 18th
25 Mar 18 Comment Agree with Vincent that the statue (especially the head area) and flowers look blown out. The brightness and saturation of the flowers doesn't seem to fit the rest of the frame, in my opinion. I think this image may be suffering from a bit too must post-processing, as evidence of strange effects is seen in the lower portions of the picture between the green leaves (the maroon areas)., and the overly sharp edges of the flowers. The composition is strong as well as the use of lighting/shadowing on the statue, to bring out the 3-dimensional nature of the subject. Mar 18th
25 Mar 18 Comment You found a very strong subject and surrounding landscape. The contrast of the rusty truck amongst the greenery and blooming daffodils creates great interest. You have piqued my curiosity for taking a trip out there to find one of those. I see incorporation of foreground, middle ground, and background. I think it could have been done stronger, however. Maybe by crouching down lower into the some tall grass or flowers. I also would have liked to see the subject a bit more prominent in the frame. The pile of dirt on camera left is distracting, as well as the old branches just behind the truck. Moving around to ensure they aren't in the frame or have the truck hide them (if possible) would help, or some post-processing to remove them! It looks to me like the upper right of the picture shows some ghosting...maybe this is an after affect of HDR processing? Best of luck in the competition!! Please let us know how it goes. Mar 18th
