Jim, I took your original converted it to mono and then cropped. I did so before I saw that you had already posted a revision. So, I am going to post my revision but I like your revised image much more than my revision. I really like the angle of the grebe in your revision, how the ripples frame it and now with the bird in one of the golden mean points. |

Lance, many thanks for your conversion and especially your explanation. I do like the "softer" qualities of your image and am going to have to try some of your conversion techniques. Posted: 12/19/2020 06: |

I like your image, the leading lines and your conversion from the original. I have no suggestions. |

I very much like the image and your conversion from the original. My only suggestion (personal preference) would be to have a little more space above the grebe and a little less space below the grebe so that the subject is more toward the bottom third of the photo. |

I like the image. Your conversion from color was great as is the composition - without the truck. However, my feeling is that the image lacks contrast. In my revision I increased the overall contrast and also burned in the road. |

I like this image a lot and have just a few minor suggestions. I would clone out the 5 spot lights on the middle left of the photo. And, consider burning in the back wall as it is quite bright. Also consider emphasizing the stairwell by dodging and burning as it has a wonderful diagonal line. |

I like the mono image, much better than the original. I suggest that there is not a whole lot of interest in the left side of the photo. In my revision I cropped the left side and a little from the right which I think emphasizes the path as a leading line. |

Jen, thanks for your suggestion. I went back to the original and revised everything included your suggestion of being able to read the labels (not real clear in the following small JPEG image). |

Mark, thanks for your suggestions. I've revised my image a lot and now have 3 large bottles in the image but not all in a row. |

I think this photo is outstanding. I like the dream like quality but am bothered by the text as I don't see how it complements the rest of the image. I would also consider lightening the effect of the overlays. |

I am bothered by the tree sloping to the left and the birds flying in opposite directions. My suggestion is to include more of the land in the image, straighten the tree, eliminate the birds on the left and also crop some off the left. I am not sure what to do about the burned out highlights in the sky. |

I really like this image. The composition is great. The tinted mono color works well with the bright flower. Great photo, no suggestions. |

You've done a wonderful job in photographing the bird. I know you have already cropped much out of the original photo but the image would be improved by an even tighter crop (which would probably create other problems). |

I like the overall image very much but suggest eliminating the fronds from the middle right side of the image. In my revision I also cropped some off the bottom. |

I like your image and its wonderful mood. However, I suggest eliminating the sky as I feel it does not add to the mood. In my revision I removed the sky, cropped some off the right side, darkened the overall image but used the dodge tool to brighten some areas. I also would have liked to have seen a person or something of interest in the image. |

I like the image, the diagonal line and your conversion from color. I feel the background should be more separated from the stairwell. So in my revision I darkened the background a little and also added some blur and I also lightened the subject. |

I like the photo but would have liked to have seen the entire man instead of just his torso. I like the colors and the composition but suggest darkening the vegetation at the end of the corridor. |

I like the image except that all of the cigar is not in the image. Perhaps if you turned the ash tray somewhat clock wise the entire cigar would be included. I also suggest using a smaller aperture (F 7 or 8) to increase sharpness and depth of field. |

Brenda, you are right, one street light is way too bright. When you photograph a street scene there is often a problem with street lights being too bright and it is very difficult to reduce their brilliance. Perhaps the best way to overcome the problem is to first bracket your exposures. You should then have an under exposed image in which the streets lights are very muted. Then in Photoshop you can use layers to allow the muted street lights in the under exposed image to appear in your final image. Unfortunately, I did not keep the under exposed image of my Chicago scene so it took me hours to eliminate the very bright street light - see revised image. |
