Xiao, when I first saw your photograph, I felt the same way that Natalia did: "It's perfect!" I couldn't think of any suggestions until I saw Sophia's variation. Her take on the image is outstanding. |

Sophia, I've been riding the Washington Metro since the first 4.2 miles opened in 1976. Your image really does it justice! I love the leading lines that direct my vision to the person at the top of the escalator. That direction is further enhanced by the sky. Very well done!
I was slightly bothered by the fact that the walls at the top of the escalator weren't quite vertical. Additionally, there appeared to be a slight slope to the stairs. With these things in mind, I took a copy of your image into Camera Raw and made some modifications (and a bit of playiing with the lighting). Your thoughts?

Natalia, ballet is such a fantastic art form, and Russia is renowned as the leader in this dance. It's exciting to see the "home" of Russian ballet. Thank you for sharing this!
After seeing your second photograph and reading some of the comments, I wanted to play with the image. I adjusted the lighting, slightly modified the crop, moved one of the cars, and added a bit of motion blur to it. Your thoughts?

Richard, your photograph is excellent. I love that you've created an image that evokes a sense of family. Very nice!!
I played around a bit in an attempt to further separate the birds from the background. However, I didn't take it as far as Sophia. Your thoughts?

What a spectacular photograph! Mark, I love your idea of waiting until the middle ground is nicely lit. I suggest that you make a large print and frame it. It's gorgeous!
Naturally, I couldn't resist playing with it a bit in Camera Raw. I wanted to try slightly different lighting approaches. Your thoughts?

Natalia, I'm really glad you noticed the artifact left from removing the extraneous bird's wing! I don't know how I missed seeing that. THANK YOU!

Thank you, Mark. The original image with all of the birds didn't "feel right."

Of course, if you want to play with people's minds, you could do something like this:

Thank you, Richard. You're absolutely right, it needed noise reduction. I have Photo AI and attempted to use it. However, for some reason, it didn't work. I'll be contacting TopazLabs to find out what's going on. In the meantime, I will be glad that I've saved a bit of history... smiles.

Mike, your post-processing skills are on vivid display in this image. I love how you've handled the background, and your work on the feathers is outstanding. I agree with Chris that moving the swan a bit to the left might be good.
Well done! |

The history of the ship is quite interesting. Thank you!
Chris, your post-processing is well done and makes the best of the lighting situation that you had. Like Adrian, I found the brightness of the window (and its "plainness") distracting and tried a slightly different version. By putting a sky in the window and darkening the area outside the chart, I wanted to see if the window would have less prominence. Your thoughts?

Beautiful work, Mark. You've created a masterpiece!
I am not familiar with "Hopper's effects". Are you referring to Edward Hopper?

Very nice handling of the statue. I like Mike's brightening of the hair/head to help distinguish it from the tree. The tree branches make a good "frame" for the image. Well done!

Mike, as I mentioned to Emil (above), I like how your version turned out. If I decide to print the image, I'll definitely go further with the darkening of the left side. Thank you!

"...made me think about the classic BW horror movies..." -- You mean it's a horrible shot? (Grins)
Although I darkened the left side of the castle, it's clear that I should have gone further. I like your more "extreme" version as well as Mike's (below) that went even further. Thank you! |

Adrian, I love your creativity and originality. Absolutely amazing! Naturally, I had to play with your image a bit. I wanted to make the frog and its path more obvious. Please let me know what you think.
For anyone who hasn't researched Adrian's hometown (Basel), I recommend looking into it. It's a delightful place with strong cultural ties.
