Jim, I kept coming back to your wonderful image. The colors are magnificent, and the shadow adds great interest to the photograph. After much thought, I decided to play with the image to see how it might look even closer. With this in mind, I cropped closely, eliminating the shadow. Then, in Camera Raw, I modified the lighting and the saturation.

Richard, commenting (or making suggestions) on such an amazing photograph is nearly impossible. I like the enhanced corona (Mark's suggestion), but I also like your original since it "feels" real. The solar flare is captivating!
Well done!

VERY impressive! David, you were at the right place at the right time... and had the right camera settings! Well done. After reading Mark's comments, I decided to play with the lighting a bit. (While I was at it, I slightly blurred the tires to give more of a feeling of motion.)

Mark, it's a fascinating idea and photograph. I couldn't resist playing with it a bit in Camera Raw. My goal was to further emphasize the swirling water. Along the way, I converted it to monochrome. What do you think?

Mark, thank you! I agree that emphasizing the couple is important. If you compare the image I submitted with the original, I think you'll see the lighting difference. However, when I converted the photograph to monochrome (per David's suggestion), I made the lighting on the couple even stronger. Please take a look below and see what you think.

David, I love both the idea of monochrome and adding a slight tone to the image. Using your two ideas (plus a few other minor changes), here's what I came up with. Your thoughts?

Thank you so much, Keisha. Like you, I felt that the image spoke of a loving couple traveling through life together. To me, the "extra" space at the top of the image enhances the feeling of the couple's intimacy, but I understand the benefit of focusing even more on the couple.
I appreciate your well-thought-out comments and ideas!

Thank you, Sophia. I like the idea of leaving a bit more of the foreground since that would imply even more that the couple is on a journey together. However, I'm less sure about cropping the top. Nonetheless, I'll play with that idea.

Keisha, welcome to Group 5! It's clear from your spectacular photograph that you will contribute greatly to the group!
I love the rose and especially how you handled the water droplet. With such a lovely image, I couldn't resist playing with it a bit in Photoshop and Camera Raw. I wanted to see how it might look with the rose being even more prominent.

Sophia, I love the tones and colors in the color version of this image. Perhaps making the sky more ominous and playing with the light in the dunes would work for you. Here's what I came up with.

Fascinating, Chris. Showing flowers in monochrome can be challenging and you did it well! I especially like Emil's rendition since it highlights the middle. With that in mind, I tried an even wilder approach. It's definitely a bit strange. Your thoughts?

Stephen, it's my understanding that model releases are not required if a portrait is taken in a public place, so long as the photographer doesn't benefit financially from using the photograph. One exception to this is competitions. The regulation indicates, "If there is no Model Release available, the image may win but cannot be published."
With that said, it's also necessary for a photographer to adhere to local regulations.

Adrian, I usually only see long-exposure photographs that include water. Your image takes advantage of this technique to give a wonderful feeling of motion. Well done!
I couldn't resist playing a bit, so I started with the original and modified the lighting and sharpness of the person. I certainly don't think it's an improvement on your image, just something different.

Thank you, Adrian. This was the first citizenship ceremony I attended, and it was awesome to see how meaningful it was to the new citizens. |

Thank you, Emil. It was a moving ceremony. 41 people were sworn in, and they were from 24 different countries. You could feel the excitement and emotions in the room. It was amazing. |

Mark, this is a fascinating image! I love how you've framed the wonderful building and captured the light to pull the viewer's eyes to it. I also own the Canon 11-24mm lens but have not had the success level that you are demonstrating with this photograph. Really well done!
I took your image into Camera Raw and played with it a bit. Most of my modifications dealt with the light. I also made some minor cropping modifications and removed the grate on the left wall. What are your thoughts?

Israel, this is such an interesting man. His expression, his clothes, and his location are all wonderful. I really like the edits done by Emil. Since your original photograph doesn't show the man's feet, it makes sense to crop the bottom (as Emil's example shows). That cropping also eliminates the bright pavement and the distracting drain.
I really envy your ability to find such outstanding subjects!

Emil, this image conveys a wonderful feeling that I can't describe. However, the more I look at it, the more I love it.
One of the elements of your photographs that attracts me is how the fantastic sky almost seems to have a parallel in the road. The light/dark areas fading off to brightness in the distance are mesmerizing. With this in mind, I tried to emphasize the road and sky by playing with the lighting and contrast in Camera Raw.
