Rick, I like the feeling of action and excitement of your image. As Sophia said, it was clearly an amazing event!
I tried to modify your photograph so that the rider and his horse were more prominent. Most of my efforts were done using the masking tools of Camera Raw. Your thoughts?

Sophia, to me, this image shows your wonderful creative side. Most people who photograph an old piano would include the whole piano. That could result in a nice image, but not one like yours that makes the viewer think of the history of the piano. I love the fact that you left (or even amplified) the dust and dirt.
I have no suggestions for improving your image. I hope it does well in the competition.

Sophia, I think that's a great suggestion... especially reducing the brightness of the jacket arm on the left side of the image. Thank you!

Thank you so much, Barbara. If you're ever interested, I have a presentation of informal and/or candid portraits that I'd be glad to show you via zoom.

I love it, Mark. And, before I saw Jim's excellent rendition, I had also played with it. I think I made approximately the same edits that Jim did. I'll include mine... but, frankly, it's a lovely image as you had it!

It's hard to imagine improving this capture. Your timing and framing was outstanding! I also like the inclusion of the blurred background which gives wonderful context... especially the challenge the rider is facing.
I played with your image a bit in Camera Raw to further emphasize the rider. I'm not at all sure it's a positive change; nonetheless, here it is.

Jim, this is wonderful. It makes me want to visit Bern! I love how the waterway, surrounded by the road and spillway, pulls my eyes into the scene. The detail in the buildings is excellent and adds a great deal of interest. Nicely done. |

Wow! What an amazing image! To me, one of the most important aspects of a photograph is the impact that it has on the viewer... and this has IMPACT! Wonderful capture!
Naturally, I wanted to play with it a bit in PS and Camera Raw. Your thoughts?

Mark, the ringmaster fit my vision of "the best of circus". But I didn't know if that was my actual vision or if it was simply because I happened to get this photograph. Thank you for resolving this question... He IS a representative of what the circus is all about.

Jim, I had initially debated about removing the microphone but decided to leave it. Now that I see your version, I agree wholeheartedly... it should be removed. Thank you!

Mandy, I thought I had already commented on your amazing image, but when I looked to see what others had written, I found that there were no comments from me! I'm sorry for being so late.
One of the things that appeals to me most about photographs is how the light and lines pull me into them, almost making me feel part of the image. Your photograph has astoundingly strong lines that make it almost irresistible. It sounds wishy-washy, but I like the lighting of both your image and the one modified by Emil. The bright lighting at the entrance of the escalator in your photograph grabs my attention, which is then directed to the man by the leading lines. Emil's version takes a different approach... using the light farther down the escalator to further emphasize the depth. Both versions work very well! Nicely done.

Wow! Every time I look at your amazing image, the two dark bolts (bottom/middle) seem like eyes. And, parts of the generator just above the "eyes" are clearly eyebrows. The "person" even has hair, as shown by the brighter coils that circle the "face".
Mark, I love images like this. The fact that yours transforms into something other than a generator makes me keep coming back to view it. I have no suggestions for changes... just a request for MORE LIKE THIS! Well done!

Bunny, you've done it again! Beautiful! I love your handling of the sky. By darkening it, you've made the top of the mountain (with its snow) really stand out, giving the entire mountain an impressive feeling of size and power. Really well done!

Israel, I wish I had made the modifications that you did. They are outstanding! With your version, there seem to be lines pointing to the gorgeous sunset. Although there is currently a lot of discussion in the PSA about using Generative Fill/Expand, I think your image shows what a valuable tool it can be. VERY WELL DONE!

Emil, I love this image! The reflections are wonderful, and the roots of the third tree from the left are fantastic. I couldn't think of anything that might improve your photograph. Nonetheless, I couldn't resist playing with it a bit in Camera Raw to see how it would look as a panoramic.
Your thoughts?

Bob, this is truly captivating! Before reading how you made the image I spent several minutes trying to figure out how this "complex pully" could possibly work. After I gave up, I recalled your description when you sent it in. lol
It's really a very innovative and technically impressive piece of work. Nicely done! |

Bunny, you're absolutely right! I tried to rectify "The Problem of the Missing Sunset" (sounds like a Hitchcock movie title). What do you think?
