Thank you, Mark. I'm careful to avoid "sticky situations" unless there are others around. So far that's kept me out of serious trouble.
I agree... David's edits were excellent! |

Thank you, Jim. I am especially fond of portraits that show emotion. I was lucky to be at the right place at the right time.

Rick, I appreciate your comments! I really enjoy candid and informal portraits and have not gotten physically attacked by my subjects (so far). Smiles...
I think David's modifications were not major ones but really helped the image.

Mark, it's definitely an interesting photograph. I played with it to see how it would look with different crop approaches. On a whim I even tried using Content Aware Fill to turn it into a panorama. Frankly, nothing appealed to me more than your original. However, I would consider adding just a bit of additional headroom above the top of the leaning pole.
Nicely done.

Rick, it is a beautiful scene! I would love to visit Alberta some day. Your processing is excellent! I especially like how you dealt with the sky.
I played a bit with your image in Photoshop to make the foreground a bit simpler. My edits remove some of the "distractions" in the reflection, but I think they made it a less interesting image. Your thoughts?

All I was able to see was the image... but that was useful. Thank you!

Jim, the four sails are appealing and I like their diminishing size. That gives a bit of depth to your image. Also, I think that including the tree on the left was a good choice. Although I feel your post-processing made the most of the photograph, there are so many components of the image that I find it difficult to know where to look. |

David, ironically there was another "David" named David Cooke in group 5 some time ago. He left the group in early 2020 and I've sporadically kept in touch with him since he left.
David Cooke is a Fellow of the Royal Photographic Society specialising in Visual Art. He's an incredible photographer and your image this month reminds me of his work. Take a look at https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.2320196928023678&type=3 for a sample.
Your image this month is wonderful. No suggestions.

Barbara, this image tells such an intriguing story. Although the ugly/scary face painted on the little girl doesn't seem to "fit" such a pretty child, it definitely makes one wonder where she is going and why the headscarf and face are skulls. I think that David's second version (more severe cropping), works especially well. Nicely done!

David, I really like your changes. I flipped between the two versions you provided and found that the second one appeals to me the most because of the coloring and the lighting... which does a better job with his cheekbone.
When I flipped between my image and yours, I was blown away by the improvements. I'll modify my image in a manner similar to yours. THANK YOU!

Bunny, thank you. And, yes, the music was loud! Like you, I like "real people images" instead of ones that flatter the subject. People and faces are fascinating.

Thank you, Bob. I also thought that the chipped tooth made it an interesting shot. The man saw me but was so preoccupied with his yelling that he didn't stop. (Fortunately) |

Bob, when I look at your image, the rushing water feels so close that I almost want to hold my breath. To me, the splashing at the bottom of the falls and the rushing water leading down to the falls are key components of you photograph. Well done!

Bunny, if reincarnation ever happens, I want to come back as you! I totally envy your travels!
I love how you've handled your post-processing. The distant mountain almost appears to be rising out of the snow.
Really well done!

Whew! Sorry for the delay. I FINALLY have recovered from the disaster of having my PC fail.
You're right, he certainly looks like he could be a boxer... or an ex-boxer. I feel lucky to have gotten the photograph.
You might find the image that I posted this month in Group 5 interesting as well.
Thank you for your comments!

Mark, it is such a fascinating location and photograph. When I look at it, I almost feel like I have vertigo! Like LuAnn, I think both the B&W and the color versions are wonderful. Well done!
I couldn't resist playing with your image a bit in PS and Camera Raw. I wanted to see how it might look with different lighting and a slightly different perspective. Your thoughts?

Shooting with film is always interesting. Like you, I find the grain adds significantly to the image... and it also adds a touch of nostalgia. The white border fits nicely with the sense of an old B&W print.
LuAnn, I think your choice not to "fix" the image to look like today's "standards" is what makes this an appealing photograph. Nicely done.

Emil, it's hard to improve on Mother Nature, but you managed to do it. The original image is a nicely done documentary of some flowers. However, the conversion to B&W and the editing you did, converted it into a work of art. Beautifully done!

Israel, I completely agree with Emil... this is absolutely one of your best images! Although patience was required to get this amazing photograph, your savvy in knowing that it was worth waiting was also important. I played with the lighting and cropping a bit with the intent of adding a bit of brightness in the direction the girl is looking. I honestly don't think it's an improvement over your wonderful image; instead, it's simply another way to process it. Well done!
