5 May 23 Reply Mark, I believe that Richard's version of the image has the wake cloned a bit... as well as adding to the right side of the canvas. For me, this provides a really good balance.

You're right about not having much reaction time.

5 May 23 Reply Sophia, thank you. Like you, I really like what Richard did. I understand your point about flipping, but Richard's flipped version is really appealing to me. May 22nd
5 May 23 Reply Barbara, I absolutely agree. Richard's modifications are outstanding. I plan to make the same changes that he did and then print it. May 22nd
5 May 23 Comment Rick, it's an interesting subject. Just goes to show that there are fascinating photographs everywhere! I think Mark's image nailed the image. It somehow feels more balanced with his cropping and other modifications.

5 May 23 Comment Sophia, it's a fascinating image and technique. You seem to have achieved an ethereal glow to the gardener. Based on all the discussion of your photograph, it's clear that you've stimulated people's imaginations and that they are motivated to try similar approaches. At least I plan to give it a try. Thank you!

5 May 23 Comment Jim, your use of the burn tool worked well! I like the fact that the Herons are building their nest together. Very cool.

I found the third bird in the background to be a bit distracting. So, I did what I could to remove it... and played a bit with the eye of the nearest Heron. I also played with the light some. Your thoughts?

5 May 23 Comment Such a fascinating subject and image. I love her expression of boredom, the makeup, and the black jacket. Also, David, I think the grunge addition really fit the "Goth feeling". Very well done!

I played a bit with your image in Camera Raw. I darkened the background and her jacket a bit more and also made her eye color match the background and added some definition to them. Your thoughts?

5 May 23 Comment Barbara, this is lovely. The combination of brilliant and subtle colors of the duck's feathers makes your photograph very appealing and interesting. I also like the background and the depth of field. Well done!

5 May 23 Comment Richard, I LIKE IT! Extending the canvas to the right makes it feel even more peaceful. And, the warmer water is just what it needed. THANK YOU!

5 May 23 Comment Wow! What a spectacular scene and photograph. I absolutely love the light shining on the water and the rays of light showing through the rain clouds. Beautifully done!

I played with the lighting a bit to further intensify the rays as well as the light on the water. Your thoughts?

62 May 23 Comment Mark, it's a fantastic image, and Emil's variation makes it even better. Amazing work... both of you! I couldn't help but play with it a bit myself, modifying the lighting a bit and slightly blurring the nearby arches. Here's what I came up with. May 23rd
62 May 23 Comment Bob, I love this dramatic image. Having the branch as a silhouette is wonderful. I felt it might be a bit "large for the canvas" if that makes sense. So, I added just a bit to the sides. I'm not sure my changes improved your outstanding photograph. Your thoughts? May 23rd
62 May 23 Comment Israel, you've continued your streak of astounding photographs! The more I looked at this image, the more I saw. The donkey on the right side was an excellent part of the story. Since it was hard to notice in the shadows, I moved the light to the side with the donkey. Your thoughts?

62 May 23 Comment Bunny, you did a marvelous job with this image. If I hadn't seen Emil's version, I would have said it's perfect. I think the changes (slightly darkening the chest feathers and brightening the head), do a great job of pulling the viewer's eyes to the Kea's face. May 19th
62 May 23 Comment LuAnn, a wonderful capture and outstanding post-processing. I particularly like the image rendered by Emil. His shading added significant depth.

Concerning using B&W on the camera's LCD monitor... I've tried it but decided that it's best for me to learn to carefully observe the lines, shapes, and compositions and then utilize Photoshop tools to adjust the tones based on the colors in an image. I don't know if this approach would work in general, but I find that it gives me lots of light control.

62 May 23 Reply Very interesting, Emil. It's a totally different look than the other versions. (I like diversity.) And it's a tremendous departure from LuAnn's soft version. I think Bob and LuAnn were right when they said there are lots of different possibilities for this image.

Thank you!

62 May 23 Reply LuAnn (and Bob), this soft version makes the fisherman seem even more alone... a fascinating approach. I really like that you removed the footprints. Since I liked what Bunny came up with and I like yours, I have some thinking to do before printing the image.

Thank you!

62 May 23 Reply Thank you, Bunny. It's an amazingly empty location (kind of like Antarctica... smiles). Your version is appealing. I like it, and I also like the original. The clouds in yours are quite dramatic. I may incorporate that idea before I print this. Thanks again!

62 May 23 Comment Dogwood blossoms are one of my local signs of Spring. I think you captured the essence of the beautiful blossoms. Although the center of the flower doesn't appear to be tack sharp in the original, you managed to fix that in the monochrome image. You also brought out the texture in the petals. Additionally, flipping the photograph works well. Nicely done.

My only suggestion would be to leave a bit more room on the left side of the image. Since the leftmost blossom is facing outward, it feel slightly close to the edge.
