I love this image and think it would do well in Monochrome competitions. I think this image was made for black and white. Very well executed.
I see you used Topaz Remask. I am not familiar with this software. What do you find it does better than Photoshop's masking options? I currently use Luminenza, quick select, select and masks and channels to get selections. Do you think I would benefit from Remasks? |

Ed, nice image. Love the composition. I would maybe consider using a curves layer with a mask to lighten the walkway and wooden bench area to offer a little separation. However, when I did it to show what I meant, it didn't make as much a difference as I expected. Good job!!! Thanks for showing us. |

Jack, I don't know if I can give you much advice on this image. I lean toward a more artistic view of black and white photography, like Julia Ann Gospodarou and Joel Tjintjelaar, which many traditional photographers don't like because it is so low key. I love the uncropped version, which I would darken the landscape and dodge the road in, similar to this, two minute attempt to show what I mean. |

Thanks Ed, I think you are onto something with regards to lightening the top jets so they don't disappear as much into the background. I am torn about lowering contrast and lightening clouds. For some reason, I am really drawn to low key monochrome images, but I do like the version you made also. If you would like a print, I have no problem sending you a full-sized watermarked jpeg or tiff so you can print or send off to print. |
