58 Jun 17 Reply I agree that it would be a difficult selection. The most difficult part would be the hair. Photoshop CC has selection tools that can help to automate the selection, provided you have a video card that's up to the task. I wanted to do a quick rendering using a mask and the field blur to illustrate what the bokeh might have produced. The more arduous selection process would also have required the original raw file to be effective. Jun 28th
58 Jun 17 Comment Another approach for a shot like this is to open up the aperture to create a bokeh. If the lens has a significantly large aperture and if you are using a full frame camera, this can produce great street portraits by making the subject pop out of the frame. When you do that you need to be sure that the focus point is at a place where the most important features of the subject are in focus. I used a layer mask with a field blur to show what it might look like. Unfortunately, the field blur creates some color fringes that are also distracting. Better to use the lens aperture. Jun 27th
58 Jun 17 Comment I did a crop that included a little less exposure on the subject. I think it works well as a portrait with a crop that makes the subject more prominent. Jun 27th
58 Jun 17 Comment I would like to see more of the guy sitting on the rock. His stick draws attention to his face. He is intent and appears to be in a contemplative mood. To me, the other people in the frame are a distraction from the real character in the frame. I did an extreme crop, but the result is too pixellated and loses sharpness when the size is increased.Maybe you have more pixels to work with. Jun 27th
58 Jun 17 Comment I used a crop similar to Isaac's. I also tried to pump the color and used tilt-shift to focus on the subject and de-emphasize some of the distractions. I also like the changes that Isaac made to the sky. Jun 27th
58 Jun 17 Comment The small groups of people make an interesting diagonal line across the frame. There may be a bit too much going on here since it is somewhat difficult to engage with the individuals. A final thought is to try black and white since the color contribution to the composition isn't significant. The red wall may be a distraction from the subjects. In my BW version I decreased the brightness and increased the contrast after converting to BW by adjusting the saturation. Jun 27th
