What I was thinking when I cropped and adjusted this image was that I wanted to remove distractions and simplify the image as much as possible. My crop was a compromise between wanting to show what the photographer was looking at while not adding distractions to the left of the white spring house. I also wanted to show the photographer as a dark mysterious subject and was looking for a tone like you would see in Alfred Stieglitz' Camera Work. I felt like I achieved that. That being said, I also like your crop and tonal treatment, John. |

I like the gritty reality in this image. The efflorescence on the bridge matched the floating scum along the stream. I would have liked to see a longer shutter speed to show movement or circulation of the surface scum and smooth out the texture of the water, which does not add much to the image in my opinion. The efflorescence would not be affected by a longer shutter speed and this would add contrast to the floating scum. |

You have made effective use of the leading lines and graphical elements. I like the slow "going back to mother earth" theme too. |

A beautiful nearly-symmetric composition. The foreground plant's position adds visual tension to the image in my opinion. |

You have created a very pleasing graphical image. The image would retain its graphical interest if it were cropped to the top 2/3 of the left half, which contains both sets of stairs, their transitions, the regular gaps in the masonry, and the person. |

The low key treatment matches the mass of the locomotive. That said, I would like to see more detail in the engine. |

I like the imperfections like the spider web, and the drops of water, that ground the image in reality. The tonal contrast in the petals could be improved by darkening the red color before converting to monochrome. I would like to see more breathing space around the flower. |
