Stuart, A pizzelle is an Italian cookie that is popular at Christmas time. You can find photos of pizzelles online. |

My impression of this image started out seeing a grunge looking treatment of a building detail but ended up seeing a delicate dusting of powdered sugar over a Pizzelle. It took me time to appreciate. |

This is a fascinating image. It is very three-dimensional and infinitely interesting. I assume that this is a mirror image but my brain tries to visual this as a single structure.

The composition contains a diagonal from the river at the lower left to the peak of the large rock formation in the upper right. For me, this adds a dynamic feel to the image. I also like the juxtaposition of the foreground cactus with the water in the river. Nicely done.

The graphical nature of the buildings and their variations in tone and pattern are compelling for me. Well done. Thank you for sharing your monochrome conversion method. |

You have created an image with excellent detail in the Egret and tonal contrast with the background. I like that you left space around the head, beak, and neck of the bird. I have no suggestions to change anything.

I like that the wavy reflections of the background trees create movement in an otherwise still serene scene. Cropping most of the bank from the top, but leaving some to anchor the top, would reduce the visual pull of the bright leaf litter. I would also crop the left side, leaving the vertical tree trunk reflection to frame the heron. This is a challenging scene. The blue reflection of the water in the color version tames the chaos of the details of the reflected tree branches. The branches merge and seem more chaotic and 2-dimensional in the monochrome version.
