I realized that if I cut out the pier and lighthouses, it doesn't matter that the horizon was off (which it was, and thank you for pointing that out). The pier and lighthouses give this a definite sense of place and specific vantage point for people who know the area, but most people would not know where it is. Here is a cropped version. I agree with Don, it puts the focus on the sand. |

The lake is Lake Michigan, one of the five great lakes carved out by glaciers. The sand is coarse with relatively large grains of quartz that were ground up by the glacier.
The image to the right was not as interesting to me, so I did not include it in most of the frames. I have attached an image that includes the beaches on the right side. |

Actually, I was saying that the blending of the structure and the background rock on the left side is a good thing. The building stones come from the surrounding rock. It's part of the story that they blend together. The fact that there is more contrast on the building's right side than the left adds interest to me. |

This image has a lot to say. The composition includes just enough elements to tell a deep story. I noticed the skewed point of view from the right side of the window frame and wondered if a more direct POV would be better. In the end I concluded that the skewed POV matches the imperfections in weathered wood perfectly. |

I think you captured the perfect moment here. The depth of field is just enough to include both birds. Well done.

This image tells a story to me of a building hewn from the surrounding rock. The building structure stands out against the dark background of the cave in the center of the image but blends in with the surrounding rock on the left side. |

Wow, this is a great subject. The detail in the burnished metal and twisted rope are wonderful. Well seen.

The tone detail in the subject building is well done. The abrupt change from light to dark at the top of the building is interesting to me and keeps me looking. I would like to see more of the buildings in the background and a darker sky. |
