John, I was using 16mm with a 16-50mm f/3.5-5.6 lens. So I could have opened up the aperture more to blur the background as you suggested... but I didn't. I read a few comments that mentioned distortion. Yes, there is distortion and it was intentional. I placed the camera just above sidewalk level very close to the musician's feet. The effect was not from lens distortion in the fisheye sense. |

The model's face strongly conveys the mood you intended. For me, the artificial lighting is at odds with the lamp light, particularly the bright pillow does not mix well with the subdued lamp light. I would have liked the book to be brighter to appear readable. |

I think the detail and tonal range in the feathers is excellent. Rembrandt lighting on the owl. |

The patterns of the stacked wood are nice. The broken cross piece calls my attention by leaving the top piece unsupported. The texture of the wood grain is reduced by the bright exposure treatment. I like the Antique treatment because it shows the wood grain in the center of the image. |

The extreme contrast and lack of any detail in the shadows gives this image a weighty and a solemn feel which I found compelling. It took me a minute to find where the crop came from in the original. I found myself spending time looking at all of the detail and contrast. |

It took me a second to identify the facial features. The image is a combination of grunge and horror, and I say that without judgement of good or bad. To me the textures are palpable and include both rough and smooth aspects brought out by the bright highlights. Have you tried different treatment of the highlights? |

This is a very interesting image with a nice sense of depth and movement. You had me looking up the photoshop filters. I was not familiar with any of them. Nice job. |
