Don and Stuart, here's a photo that gives some perspective of the tree's relation to the house. The tree literally envelops and arches over the house. It's a cleaner perspective but, as you can tell, I prefer the tangled web version. |

Thank you for your comment. For me, the image doesn't work without the building. It's about the contrast between the tree and the building. There is contrast of materials (masonry and wood), shapes (geometric vs organic lines), and most important, size. For me, both elements together are the subject. |

This image tells a brief, ordinary story. To me the customer's bottle on the shelf below the counter is the most interesting element in the photograph. The expression on the server's face is unremarkable, perhaps reflecting the routine of her job. I would have liked to see both faces, clearly. The pictures of the hamburgers on the sign are, not by chance, enormous. I feel like I should apologize for our American poor diets.

This image exudes quiet elegance. I like the contrast between the subject and the background. I'm still trying to figure out the source of the blurry hand reflection to the left of the subject. It looks like a reflection from the dark object that he is leaning against, but it is puzzling, in a good way. At other times the hand looks like an artifact from a long exposure. You don't have to explain it. It keeps my eyes looking at the image.

I think this is a wonderful perspective, especially the way that the upper floors slant upward and the lower floors slant downward. The symmetry also adds impact to the image. The rule of thirds would not be nearly as effective in my opinion.

You brought out the shapes of the glyphs very nicely in monochrome. I think it is much more effective in monochrome than in the original color version. You did an effective job cropping the image as well.

I like the very strong contrasting graphical elements of the vertical slats on the side of the tank and the spiral stairway. The fact that the image shows the stairway hanging over or off of the side of the tank adds drama to the image in my opinion.

I enjoy all of the elements that give this image depth. Those are the spots of light on the floor from the skylights, the repeating receding doorways, the bright room at the end of the hall/cell block, and multiple features that form lines directly to a single vanishing point. It would be difficult to make such an image without HDR. Nicely done.
